Today i learnt about unit 1 and the assignment we will be doing. We had to make a mood board on types of shots and the functions of a DSLR camera. I found that this helped me to learn more about all the different shots that are used and what functions are used when using a DSLR camera. I achieved 2 mood boards that are filled with so many ideas which will help me later on when i want to design my own. I think that i need to add more videos to my mood board as this will help to give me more ideas about what i would add when i have to make my own.

In todays lesson we have to complete our mood boards by adding videos, images, text and websites. I also created another mood board which was about setting up camera equipment, which I have completed. I found it interesting to find out all the different camera equipment you need and how to set it up. In our mind map we also had to include health and safety for the people who are setting it up, websites, YouTube videos, images and documents to show how to set up camera equipment. We then had to register to blendspace as this is where we are going to be uploading all our work on to. After we had completed that we then had to start on our kid maps of our chosen tutorial, I have chosen 'types of shots' as I feel more comfortable doing this. We first looked at a YouTube video that taught us how to make the best mind map that you can. We then started our mind maps I only started to draw the outline of where everything was going to go, I used the headings: YouTube videos, screencast, webpages, images, documents, audio and digital videos. I now need to start planning what is going to be put into my tutorial

Today we finished off our mind maps, we did this by expanding on our current ideas and adding colour and more images of useful document. From doing the mind map i learnt which would be the best ways to create more ideas is to put it into a mind map and then expand my thoughts. Then we looked at a power point which gave us us examples of how we could create our tutorial and the best ways to keep the audience engaged. We then got put into groups of 4 and we had to set up a tripod and a camera, this helped us get an idea of what we will put into our own tutorial. We then had to look at the other group setting up the tripod and camera, this was useful as it helped us understand how other people would set it up and if they did it the same as our group or not.

Today we re capped all the different types of shots and angles which helped us to understand all the shots that we needed to include in our storyboards for our tutorial on types of shots. We then started to plan our storyboards, I found it difficult to think of ideas at first but then I got in to it. We then had to start to draw our tutorials into a storyboard, this took a lot of time because I wanted to make the storyboard as clear as possible. On our storyboards of different types of shots we also had to include, the shot we was going to do, the duration of the shot, description of the shot, what cut we was going to do, the angle of the shot and then add what lyrics/music we are going to put into our tutorial.

Today we looked at pre production, we finalised our storyboards and learnt how to write a proposal, booking log, contingency plan, location visit sheet and production schedule. Pre production is important because it helps you to plan everything out such as what equipment will I need to use and where are we booking it from, what will happen if someone is ill and can't film for you, where you are going to film and what are you going to film. My plan for filming is to use my iPad however I may decided to use my camera for filming. I am going to test both of them to see the results.

Today we also looked at Blendspace, this is where we are going to be putting all of our pre production onto so that different people can look at our ideas and we can get feedback. I think that blendspace is a good way to present our work however I did have a few problems with uploading my work on to it. This is because we had to use our iPads which I found hard because word wouldn't work on our iPad so we had to use pages, next time I would use the macs to make putting the work on to blendspace and uploading easier.

In the morning we touched up on our pre production work to make sure everything is uploaded to blendspace ready for Delta to assess our work. Then in the afternoon we went into the university building and worked in the tv studio. This was really interesting as we found out how to work all the cameras, and then created our own chat show. Me and Chloe went into the screening room and saw what happens behind the scenes. Whereas some people were the camera operators, the performers and directors. The camera operators and directors all had to wear head sets which allowed them to hear jack in the screening room as he was giving them instructions on when to zoom and move the cameras. After we had finished filming the chat show we then got to watch it back. I learnt that the reason the green screens are is green is because it is the furthest colour from the skin so you can get a clearer picture on screen.

Over the half term I am going to do a test shoot for my tutorial, this will help me to see anything that I may need to change in my tutorials and see what my errors are and things things I need to improve on. I also need to complete a key term glossary which will include all the words that I have learnt with a definition which I will then upload to blendspace.

Today we touched up on the health and safety blog on padlet and the student self assessment evaluation to make sure I was ready for my formative chat with delta about the unit so far.

This afternoon we did a workshop with jack, he showed us all the different editing skills that we will need to understand ready for when we start editing our tutorial. He showed how to use Adobe premier pro, and showed us all the different features. This is included, how to add files, how to add transitions, music and text. I did however know how to do this as I did GCSE but it was good to refresh my my memory and even learn a little bit more on editing.

I then had my formative assessment with delta, in this we discussed what level i was working at, which was an excellent. We then talked about all the things that I need to improve to make my work even better, we felt that I need to be confident with my work and start filming my tutorial. I need to do a test shoot and my final test shoot before the 12th of November so that I am ready to start editing on Thursdays lesson. I now need to review my self assessment evaluation so that everything is up to date.

Today I edited my types of shots tutorial. I found this difficult as I am not very good at editing, so Callum helped me to complete my editing. The thing which I found difficult was uploading my videos from my iPad onto the Mac so that I could edit it. This took up a lot of my time but I finally did it. I then had to edit which I found hard but from having the editing workshop last week I remembered some key things which helped me to edit my work. I found the editing hard as I couldn't find the music that I would of liked to go over my work as there wasn't much to choose from on the macs. I had to get some from the internet but I felt that none of them fit my work like I would have wanted it to. I finally found some which fitted with my tutorial but I still think this is something I could of improved. Also I found it hard to edit all my clips together in the correct order however I used my storyboard which helped a lot.

Today I filmed all of my shots for my tutorial. I decided to film today as I felt that all my pre production work was complete and I felt confident to start filming. The problems I faced was that my performer Charlie wasn't able to film so I had to look at my contingency plan and get my other performer which was Ellie who was able to film today. The weather was also a problem as it was raining so had to keep changing the day I wanted to film on. However, I felt that everything else went to plan as I used my story boards and was able to direct my performers and they knew what they was doing. To improve in the future I will use a camera instead of an iPad because I want my tutorial to be the best quality it could be. I think that if I used a camera and tripod I wouldn't have any shaky shots and it will look more professional.

Today in the first half of the lesson we had to make sure that all of our tutorials were complete. I re watched my work and improved the final things that I wanted to change. After lunch we went into the lecture theatre and watched our peers tutorials. Once we had watched the tutorial we had to give feedback to each student and tell them the things that went well and what they need to do to improve mine. I had to give feedback on Callum's work and upload onto padlet the things that people found good and bad about his work.Once my video had been watched by my peers I got some feedback. The positives that I got was that they liked my story and all my shots were clearly presented. I to improve I need to make sure that next time I film on a iPad I will need to remember to film in landscape instead of portrait as this will make it easier when editing and will look a lot better in the end
