I understand that some people would end up disliking the books after reading some, but it would be hard to determine who those people would be. I think this series has a lot of good stuff, and each book delivers a good message. There is something here for everyone. They are to stay with their aunt and uncle and (dreadful, according the them) cousin Eustace. Susan had gone to America for the summer with her parents, and Peter was staying with someone to study for his education. When the two arrive, they decide to have a look around the place with Eustace. They enter a room with nothing but a painting. The painting shows a large ship sailing through waves. Lucy and Edmund recognize it as a ship of the Narnian craftsmanship. After looking long enough, the painting begins to come to life. Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace are all swept into the sea that was once a painting on the wall. After realizing what had happened they get the attention of the ship and manage to be helped aboard. Prince Caspian and other various Narnian individuals are sailing East. They have come about Narnia before, and know how this works. They planned to join the voyage, as there wasn’t much else to be done. Eustace continues to be his nasty self. He is lazy, full of complaints, and hard to get along with. The goal of the voyage they had joined was to travel as far east as any man had in search of the seven lost lord of Narnia. Along the way they map out what they come upon. The first place they come to ends up being a previously governed land of Narnia, which has become overrun with the slave trade. Five of the crew were taken as slaves, and one was purchases. Caspian has been purchased by one of the seven lords because he “had a familiar face”. This led to reclaiming of the land and end to the trade. They continue to discover more island on their voyage. On one island Eustace is turned into a dragon. They find out that one of the seven lords had the same happen to him, but he had died. Eustace is pulled aside by Aslan (who makes numerous appearances throughout the book) and is returned to human form. At another island they find that one of the seven lords had been turned into gold after jumping in a magical pool. The next one is found swimming along shore of the “Dark Island”, where dreams come true. Like for real! All of the horrible things you can dream come alive. He is basically scarred for life after this. At the next island they found three of the lords asleep at Aslans table. In order to awake them, the crew must sail as far east as they could, and leave one of the crew members there. It was a retired star named Ramandu who explained this. The crew does this, and Reepicheep leaves when the boat couldn’t sail further. They saw him enter Aslans country, at which many were jealous of. Aslan appears to Lucy and Edmund and Eustace to explain that it was time to go back, and that they wouldn’t be returning ever again. He tells them he exists in their world, but is known by another name there. First of all, they are in Narnia. Three of the main characters were sucked into Narnia from our world. The rest of the book takes place on the Dawn Treader and various islands discovered along the way, including; Felimath (one of the Lone Islands), Dragon Island, Deathwater Island, Dark Island, The Island of Ramandu, and the edge of the world (aka Aslan's Country)

All of these settings proved to be very important and crucial to the book. Her cousin is Eustace. She was once a great queen in Narnia, so her and Caspian have that in common. She is the youngest, and is very sweet little girl. She loves everyone and everything and always tends to look on the bright side. She is smart and always helps the others out when she can.

Edmund- Edmund is one of the siblings, and was once a high king in Narnia. Eustace is his cousin as well. Edmund is very brave and never hesitates to stand up for someone or something. Because he was once a king in Narnia, he tends to be a very good leader.

Eustace- Eustace is the cousin of Lucy and Edmund, and has no relation with Caspian other than what is developed on the journey. He starts off as a rather annoying boy with loud opinions, but towards the end he becomes much more tolerable and you can tell that all of the challenges he faced molded him into more of a man.

Caspian- Caspian is the king of Narnia. He is loved by just about everyone and highly respected as a leader, soldier, and friend. He is very wise with his words and never seems to say the wrong thing... except for one time at the very end when he loses his temper. Aslan appears to him though, and he has a moment he will never forget. Eustace boards the Dawn Treader as a spoiled and obnoxious boy. He complains, he whines, he never helps out, and he always has something mean to say. The atmosphere he ends up in is very foreign to him, so maybe part of his behavior is justified. It isn't until his own lazy actions get him turned into a dragon that he becomes self aware. His attitude changes to the crew and journey, and actually becomes rather nice to have along. Eustace found himself on the voyage, and it was much needed.

Man vs. Society, Conflict number two:
Now this could maybe be considered a man vs. man, but we are sticking with Man vs. society. When the dawn treader anchors next to the lone islands, five of the crew members go ashore. They run into some strangers, who capture the five as slaves. When they are taken to the city of Felimath, they are sold as slaves. One man buys Caspian, and when Caspian explains everything they realize who eachother is. Caspian is the king of Narnia, and the man who bought him was one of the seven great lords of Narnia. With the help of this newfound Lord, Caspian takes over the city (which once belonged to Narnia anyways, and technically still did). They put an end to the slave trade, which is what I consider "society". It was Caspian and his Narnian's against an inhumane, slavery driven country.

Man vs. Nature, Conflict number three
Although there were multiple man vs nature conflicts, one of them stood out. During the voyage there was a large sea creature that just about took out the dawn treader, ending their voyage. The crew acted fast and came up with a method to escape. They succeeded, and celebrated with a party. Edmund and Lucy (Eustace too, I suppose) learn after their long voyage that it was all for something bigger.
