men are given the freedom to fail, or behave foolishly and be forgive whereas women need to watch their every step and make sure they don't wander from the lines others drew for them, this is the reality of our world. We claim that we have gone past gender inequality but it is still extremely evident. Look at Donald trump, a man whose entire personality seems made up clumsily together out of flaw after flaw but he was still voted on for president. Woodrow wilson the 28th president of the United States was so racist, that he was considered extremely racist during his own time, but yet he was president and liked by his people. Currently people claim they love women and they are not being sexist, but when seeing a female politician it is their flaws that is the problem however, these male politician had flaws, consequential ones in fact but they were brushed over. people will say "Elizabeth Warren's reveal of her native American heritage was atrocious" or "Alexandra Occassio should be careful not to misstate facts." this is the truth and our current reality.

Lack of sustainability is a well known problem, however very few actually take action. Starting with one person, small actions can have a big impact. One example is France. They created a rule that made supermarkets donate their unsold goods to charities, in order to reduce food waste. They started just by themselves, but later their solution inspired other countries such as Italy to have a similar rule. This shows how it only takes one change to influence others to take action too. Another example is the rising popularity of “zero waste” restaurants. Which are restaurants that don’t produce food waste. It first started as one restaurant with the premise that they would have no rubbish bins, and incorporated pickled foods into their dishes to make produce last longer. However there was soon a rise of popularity in these restaurants and more started opening, with new ideas such as one restaurant that had a mycelium fungus that fed off of the leftover food to grow. Restaurants with one set menu, to reduce the wastage of unordered menu items, or other new innovative ideas branched off of the first person who decided to make a change. This shows that change is contagious, and one person can have a big impact.

Social media can have both positive and negative impacts on society. It can bring people together, but also tear them apart. It can be used to spread awareness, but in the process, could also harm people. According to Time, in a research conducted by Roxane Cohen Silver, a professor of psychological science at the University of California, Irvine. Evidence showed that those who watched at least 4 hours of content per day during the week following the September 11 attacks reported increased stress and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and were at greater risk of developing health problems years later. With the recent Ukraine-Russia war, clips from the war could very likely cause mental distress for viewers. However, for people who have personal ties to Ukraine, they “[can] feel more calm and less disoriented when [they’re] engaging with what’s going on, especially if it’s content made by Ukrainians.” Ukrainians can also use social media as a platform to spread awareness about whats happening and call for help from other countries.

Racism can be expressed in a multitude of different ways and in some countries, it's more prevalent than in others. For example, in South East Asia, racism isn't talked about or demonstrated nearly as much as it is in the US or UK. There is more suppression and rules such as in Singapore that makes peaceful protests nearly impossible to execute. This is a form of limiting people's freedom of speech about something as fundamental as their skin colour. In addition to this, the media only broadcasts topics that spark huge interest or will have something in it for them, instead of the general interest of making everyone feel equal, regardless of skin tone. Propaganda and rumours spread false information about racism to the general audience and educate ourselves and each other about racism and racial justice and how we can better our world.

Everyone should try and help the environment because it’s something we all share. The environment is not ‘someone else's problem’, it belongs to everyone. MEDC’s and LEDC’s are responsible for it, not just one or the other. LEDC’s though, have been put under a lot of pressure to turn ‘green’ and follow what the MEDC’s are doing. Most of what they are being told is to lower down their coal usage. MEDC’s are doing a great job of lowering their carbon emissions and using green energy. LEDC’s are finding this to be a challenge as they use coal because it’s cheaper and more efficient. Using coal means they can spend less time and money worrying about their energy, and more time and money trying to help their citizens and country industrialise. They don’t have the resources to help their citizens and themselves, let alone the environment. While they can do a few things to help the environment, they can’t do as much as the MEDC’s can do because of the big gap in resources and power.

Right now, there is far too little racial justice in the globe. People are treated differently depending on their ethnicity and where they come from, which is incorrect! According to the American Civil Liberties Union, black kids are suspended three times more frequently than white students. This is unethical and should not be allowed to continue. Racism is what is going on in the world right now, and it isn't helping anyone. When people observe different races of people, they automatically associate them with different types of people, which is incorrect. This is occurring simply because people have differing opinions about people of colour, despite the fact that everyone should be treated equally because we are all the same.

The difference in power between genders are greatly recognised across the globe, with several factors that contribute greatly towards the inequality between the genders. One main factor is the environment the genders are in, of which the mindset, thinking and perspectives on what certain genders acts are to be considered "normal" vary, therefore concluding perspectives different from other environments with different points of views. According to the national statistics of Singapore(considered to be a really developed country), the wage gap between men and women stand boldly, of which men are being empowered and have wages that are 4.3% higher than woman. Whereas in less developed countries such as Afghanistan, women's rights are rarely even thought about, and even getting work is tremendously difficult. According to unwomen.org, women in Afghanistan are not met with the basic rights and freedom a woman should have, whereas men have the freedom to do anything they want, and multiple occasions unfairly treating their wives(another situation where men are being empowered). Such gap between the rights of women in Singapore and Afghanistan is outstanding, and reflects back to the education and environment the term is brought up in(with Singapore in an environment that is able to provide better education, and Afghanistan not so much)

Animals have been mistreated in many diverse ways.Whether it’s for scientific research, farming or consumption, it’s right and just for animal right activists to fight on behalf of animals. Nevertheless some animal rights activists have gone miles too far, sometimes ignoring the other point of view. According to indiatimes “Cattle at Denar have been filmed being slaughtered in full view of each other.” Cruelty to this level should be tended to and argued against by animal right activists. Sacrificing meat can mean saving lives of creatures all people once saw as equals. However stepping into life saving experiments is something that should not occur. The Havard Crimson stated that activists were “simply trading lives for an ill defined, abstract principle.” Although urging the Audience to go vegan is the right thing to do, it is incomparable with stepping into experiments that save lives. Activists should first analyse the other point of view before taking action.

Many people around the world are burning trash and other things which can release toxic air pollution into the air. Every year, almost 4 million people die from household air pollution from cooking at home. Furthermore, people just don't have the access to clean cooking. LPG is one solution for this, however it's not because people want LPG, it's because people want something else thats different. It burns much more cleanly and doesn't expose anything harmful in the air. Even though this doesn't make climate change better significantly, it can help improve the health over people around the world which don't have the accessibility to clean cooking. People with the privilege to cook in a clean environment however won't be impacted much. Therefore it may help with the health of people, but it may not contribute to improving climate change.

Social media is an extremely controversial topic because there are many benefits but also many disadvantages to it, but social media is mostly harmful when the purpose of the text isn’t to benefit the audience. For example, social media is mostly harmful when the text is used to gain views or likes. The social media platform Facebook’s aim is to get more views and subscribers. And that’s why Facebook researchers are covertly studying how its apps are eroding girl’s body image, and using that information to get more views. (New York Times: Does social media make teens unhappy?) As a result of Facebook’s desire for subscribers and views to gain profit for the company, many girls’ body image and mental health is being harmed. Another example of when social media is harmful is when it is increasing stress. In a study by Pew Research Centre, Twitter was found to be a “significant contributor” to stress because it increased their awareness of other people’s stress (BBC: Is social media bad for you?). Although the purpose of the author was most likely to try and increase awareness in others, or even just to vent about their own stress, the result of this was that viewers on social media are getting increasingly more stressed when they are on social media. In this way, social media can be both good and bad, but it is mostly likely to have a negative effect on the viewer when the purpose of the text isn’t to benefit the audience.

In order to reduce carbon emissions, governments need to regulate laws, not through individuals. The solution to climate change is not through a small group of people but through systemic changes such as reducing meat consumption, lowering the price of vegan food, and providing more benefits for vegans. If we really want to make a difference in carbon emissions, we first need to change policy and have an appropriate carbon cost. Scientists have found that avoiding meat and dairy is the single greatest way to reduce our environmental impact on the planet. Research shows that global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% if meat and dairy products are not consumed. If governments act to change the food system, it will be easier to reduce carbon emissions in a more efficient way.

Many members of society are not using their voices which is resulting in animals being severely mistreated through a variety of different ways. As Paul Shaprio mentioned in his Ted Talk it is vital to “expand our circle of moral concern” meaning that we need to take into account how animals think and feel and therefore use our power and privilege to once again be their voice and take immediate action. This way, instead of our future generations condemning our previous behaviour towards animals and how many individuals, farms, companies and more treated them, we can help shape how we treat and protect animals in the future.

Despite the fact that it is a multicultural country, discrimination in Singapore against minority cultures is still present. When Singapore separated from Malaysia, they chose to make it multicultural instead of Chinese centric, however, most government positions are still held by people of Chinese origin. Even the UK high commissioner of Singapore acknowledged the Socio-Economic differences between minorities, although he did defend the government as well. A CNA article stated that Chinese Singaporeans were more likely to feel that racism is not a big problem, although the margin was small. There have been multiple cases highlighted by social media that show how minority Singaporeans face racism. Personally, a family friend had trouble buying a house because of the stereotype that Indian kitchens will become dirty and have a smell because of the food they cook. Overall, this shows how racial discrimination is a big issue that still needs to be addressed in Singapore.

Today’s social media posts represent more evolution in communication than sharing information. The Washington Post found that compelling viral videos of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealing for support are distributed quicker and more efficiently than TV news or articles in a print newspaper. The Washington post also found that these platforms make it easy to filter or tune out news we don’t want to hear. Both Syrians and Ethiopians have smartphones and have been filming their wars and uploading their videos for years, yet it has not garnered international sympathy. The click through rate is the number one priority in influencers and news agencies and spreading accurate information is no longer the goal.

For example, in the article "The Big Read: Gender equality in Singapore remains elusive amid entrenched attitudes about women’s roles", it has been stated that not only does Joana have to do all the house chores after putting up with 10 hours of work per day, she still has to put up with a useless husband that has been unemployed for 20 years or so and take care of the 2 children of her's. But even though she is stuck with this "useless piece of large display furniture" (her husband), she doesn't realize that she may be one of the victims of gender inequality. At the end of the interview, she was still trying to protect her husband by saying even though "[she] feel it’s not fair. But men and women are also different. [And] maybe women like cleanliness more and [they] cannot tolerate untidiness, so [they'll] just do what needs to be done." Traditional mindsets and patriarchal values such as "a wife being primarily responsible for matters at home with the husband playing a supporting role" need to be changed.

Most people seem to understand what is happening yet they don’t take action, but some countries definitely are. For example Italy has put in a law to help decrease the amount of food waste per year. Every year Italy throws away 5.1 million tons of food away. The new law allows people to bring food back from restaurants and give the “wasted” food to the homeless. Not only does this allow the homeless people to have a source of food but it also helps out Italy with how much food they are wasting, especially when Italy has some of the best food in the world.
