Nobody knew how to react. Numerous people were affected and families were scarred and they lived in a state of paranoia. 

Americans started burning down mosques and vandalizing them after 9/11. Individuals were killed solely because they were Muslim. Acts of violence and discrimination rose. Prejudice and racism towards those of the Islamic faith, people were more stereotypical. A few months after 9/11 there were 700 reported incidents of hate crimes towards Arab-Americans. Crimes based on religion, mostly affected people from the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
