Step 1: It's a lawyer's opportunity to ask questions to a witness who saw everything, who would be helpful for the case. She/He answers to open questions such as "Who?What?Where....". In that case the witness can answer more widely and give more information.

Step 2:
a) The witness answered to general, open questions. She/He gives a lot of details, says where he was, what he witnessed, what he was doing . His testimony is chronologically composed: before, during, after. The witness can be part of the police.

b) The lawyer is trying to collect as many details as possible. THis is the "most important" testimony because this is the person who saw the more relevant elements than the others.

Direct examination : 1. The direct examination is the moment when the lawyer interrogates their witness in order to defend through them their case. They have to ask them prettty open questions.2. example 1 : The questions asked were : "What were you doing at 7 o'clock PM ?"; "Can you describe the crime scene and its surrroundings ?"; What was the next stage in your investigation?".By asking those questions the lawyer is trying to let the witness speak for herself and not ask too precise questions. example 2 : The questions asked were "When you arrived at your house, was your father there?" and "What happened?".The lawyer is trying to have the point of view of the witness.
