I'm Italian and I'm a young Spanish teacher for middle and secondary schools. I recently graduated and immediately got the teaching qualification after a long training course, so I am at my first experiences in the classroom.

I would love to create alternative lessons in order to engage my students. They are not the most willing in the world :) , yet they have lots of skills they don't even now and it is my intention to get the most of them.

Hope - I'm sure - this course will help me a lot and I look forward to receiving suggestions from most expert colleagues.

School's facilities for teaching

In the school where I work, we have got computers in each classroom and a wifi connection. Unfortunately - and for obvious reasons - this is not accessible to students, but I often let them use their own on their smartphones.

There is no multimedia interactive board in each classroom, yet there are a couple of rooms dedicated.

1. Where are you sitting? What is behind you? Is this distracting? Does it look professional?

2. Check your Skype name. Name+ surname is fine.

3. Dress for the job, not for where you live.

4. What does your body say about you? Maintain digital eye contact.

5. Tranquility, avoid noises, voices, phone alarms.

6. Always wear a smile! :)

“Don’t believe everything you read.”

Check:

- the domain of a website. If there is a tilde, it normally refers to a personal page.

- The author/publisher

- The “last updated”

- "About us" section

- Contacts section

- The purpose of the website

4. It can be edited by anyone, and it’s good because the more updated a page is the less biased it will be

Coding can become a very useful tool to create online environments shared among teachers and students. This may help boosting the education process. Coding should be considered as a cross-curricular tool.

https://code.org/ can be a starting point.

In Italy there is a struggle to bring coding, especially into primary schools.
