I chose to talk about Hunter S. Thompson because he wrote iconic american literature. Thompson is a rarity in literature because he fully understood madness and conveyed that in his works. I also chose Hunter S. Thompson because he sparks serious controversies such as freedom, drug use, and religion. The first work I read by Thompson was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I believe controversies are needed in the classroom to further a mind, but it is extremely graphic in nature. I remember in AP Lit, one of the students chose to read the work and the knowledge and view points he reaped from it were impeccable. It gives the psychology of drug addicts and exploits that this mindset is similar to all others; even religious people have the same goals. Everybody is chasing something that is just unattainable.
