         <description><![CDATA[<div>Subcultures <br> <br>-The definition of a subculture has gone through many changes, but as of right now the official definition is :<br> <br>-Subculture, a concept from the academic fields of sociology and cultural studies, is a group of people within a culture that differentiates itself from the parent culture to which it belongs, often maintaining some of its founding principles.<br> <br>-Put more simply a subculture is a set of beliefs located within the main culture of a society. <br><br>-The subculture will have its own characteristics but will exist and operate within the main culture. <br><br>-The subculture may be defined by factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, socio-economics or special interests. <br> <br>-No matter who you are you will inherit a culture/subculture that will help you have a sense of belonging. The culture will provide you with knowledge of who you are and how you should live your life. <br> <br><br>Within our society, many sub-cultural groups are blended into the mainstream culture. <br><br>-Each sub-cultural group has its own identity but collectively they are all part of mainstream culture. <br> <br>-Sub-cultural groups are represented in media texts and are often recognized as stereotypes. <br><br>-As with other media representations, particular characteristics are selected while other characteristics are ignored. <br><br>-Characteristics that distinguish the group from the mainstream are exaggerated and repeated until they become widely accepted stereotypes. <br><br></div>]]></description>
