This social group have dominated society, and social institutions have been structured to protect their interest / preserve their dominance.
Discrimination - the unfair or prejudicial treatment of certain categories of people, based on perceptions and misconceptions, especially on the grounds of race, age or sex.
Self - fulfilling prophecy - a stereotype is heard so often that the behavior of the stereotyped group begins to reflect the misconception, and inadvertently justify it (e.g. black people cant swim)
stacking - placing athletes in certain positions based on racial stereotypes (e.g. black people stereotyped as lacking intelligence and so denied opportunity to play the 'thinkers position ' of quarterback)
Glass ceiling - invisible but real barriers which prevents people from advancing to higher positions. such barriers exit due to prejudice on the basis of certain characteristics (e.g. race, gender, age)

Sterling later said that the media "fuel racism" by the ways in which they portray young black footballers. The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) said it condemns the increase in racial abuse its members have been receiving and encourages all clubs to "take the strongest possible action for fans found guilty of racially abusing players". This may be banning them from games however while it may be true that racial slurs have been used towards the Raheem and others, and that the press influences public opinion and negative racism towards other people. 
It also shows that through the 30 years racism hasn't changed by much as John Barnes and everton fans threw bananas at Barnes during a Merseyside derby. following the match, Barnes stated that racism could not be tackled in football until it is tackled in society. This is because as one person from different races can influence the rest of society for a negative aspect of different people and their believes and how the media and society influence each other which is then used in everyday life. 
So by Raheem Sterling speaking out it means that things need to change in football with racism but overall society has to change, this is because different opinions have a different way of pointing ways. Caster Semenya will compete in the women’s 800 meters at the Rio 2016 Olympics on 17 August. She is being widely tipped to take gold for South Africa. The 25-year-old athlete won silver in the 2012 Olympics and this year ran her fastest ever time for the 800 m. She set the fastest time at the World Athletics Championships in 2009 but her road to victory has been marked by controversy over questions about her gender which ultimately overshadowed her success. As a result, her performance at the Olympics will be closely watched around the world. 
By Semenya winning the women’s 800 m in 2009 with an astonishing and seemingly effortless four second lead on her rivals at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, aged 18. But this victory was followed by a “gender verification test” to establish whether a medical condition was giving her an unfair advantage. 
The gender test sparked controversy in South Africa and prompted criticism of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for allowing her gender to be questioned so publically. British bookies even took bets on the results of her gender tests.
