Today is the day that I launch into space on The friendship 7. I was originally supposed to launch in December, but the launch was postponed. There were many mechanical problems at first, and some days the weather conditions weren't okay. Finally, on February 20 it was time for me to launch. The mission was for me to attempt to orbit the Earth, and return back safely. Since this was postponed, many were excited. I was extremely excited as well, but nervous and hoping there would be no malfunctions. The launch took place in Cape Canaveral Florida. Finally, after days of waiting it was time. The roar of the engine was so loud! I felt myself moving upwards. Looking out my window, I realized I was in space.

I reached space with no issues at first. I started my first orbit. Looking outside my capsule, I saw small particles floating right next to it. They looked like stars surrounding me. They also reminded me of fireflies. I've never heard about it before, and was excited to tell Nasa about it. During my 2nd orbit, I realized mission control were asking me to run a lot of tests and I knew something was wrong. They ended up telling me that there were sensors saying my heat shield and landing bag weren't secure. I tried to keep calm and listened to their instructions carefully and cautiously. Inside, I was freaking out wondering if I'll even make it back to Earth. After three orbits around Earth in 4 hours and 55 minutes, I returned home. I safely made it back into Earth's atmosphere. After getting back into Earth's atmosphere, I felt a lot more relieved and the stress of the launch started to fade, but it wasn't over yet. Eventually, I landed in the Atlantic ocean safely.

It's been 36 years since I've last been in space. In those years, I've done many different things but there was one thing I desired to do the most. And that was to return to space. Over the years I've kept close contact with Nasa, and I have expressed my desire. I proposed an idea: Nasa could use me as a test subject, to see how space affects the elderly. Nasa finally agreed to this idea and put me on a STS-95 SPACEHAB mission, that had tons of life science and microgravity experiments. I am 77 years old, and I will be the oldest man to ever enter space! I was ecstatic to be able to finally return. I entered space with no issues at all and stayed there for a total of nine days. I made 134 orbits in space! I returned to Earth safely once again.
