During the voyage to Australia, convicts ate bread, hardtack, salted beef or pork, oatmeal, butter cheese, and fruit and vegetables <br>. at first England used to export convicts to the 13 conict colonies in America<br>. Alexander was the first ship to arrive in Botany Bay in 1788<br>.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Why did British send their convicts over to Australia?<br><br>Until 1782,English convicts were transported to America. However, in 1783 the American war of independence ended. America refused to accept any more convicts so England had to find somewhere else to send their prisoners. Transportation to New South Wales was the solution.<br>How did aboriginal hunt?<br>Women were primarily the gatherers of vegetables, roots, herbs, fruits and nuts, eggs and honey, and small land animals such as Snakes, Goannas. Men were the hunters of large land animals and birds and also  cooperated to organise large-scale hunting drives to catch Emu’s and Kangaroos.<br>What food did the aboriginal eat?<br>A wide range of plants and animals were eaten by Australia’s Aborigines and insect foods included certain ants, grubs, moths and beetles while streams provided fish and eels. Birds were eaten, including waterfowl, scrubfowl, the cassowary and the jabiru. <br>What are aboriginal houses called? <br>Gunya or Wiltija are well known Aboriginal names for a house. In the Torres Strait Islands houses are often called huts.<br>How many aboriginal tribes are there?<br>There were over 500 different clan groups or nations around the continent, many with distinctive cultures, beliefs, and languages. Today, indigenous people make up 2.4 percent of the total Australian population ( about 460,000 out of 22 million people).<br>What tools did the aboriginal people use?<br>String, bowls, other wooden tools, weaving, cloaks, pearl shell and bone.</div>]]></description>
