In this case it was against slavery.

2. Compromise of 1850 - Proposed by Henry Clay and Stephen Douglass, the compromise admitted CA as a free state, UT and NM popular sovereignty, stricter fugitive slave law, slave trade abolished in Washington D.C.

3. Republican Party - Created in 1854 because of anger by Whigs, Free Soil, and few antislavery Democrats people to stop the spread of slavery.

4. Dred Scott v. Sandford - A case between a slave, Scott, and his "owner", Stanford. Scott escaped a ran away to a free state but was caught and he declares he is a freeman. Decision: Declared slaves were not citizens and that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional.

5.
