The bird is cleaning the crocodile's mouth, so it doesn't get infected by insects, and the bird feeds on them. This behavior has become an adaptation, because both species realized that they can rely on each other to survive. Personally, I think social behavior is very beneficial to everyone, because they can help each other survive longer.
