We started off unit 1 with an delightful story about animals and the number of legs they each have. We learnt and practised counting natural numbers from 1 to 5 and understanding the correlation of the abstract elements of numerals to the concrete quantities we are counting. In the second unit, we discovered how to compare the number of ojects of the same kind. This facilitates the children's understanding of "more" and "less".

In our second lesson with our super fun Sorting Set, we learnt how to take a set of data already extracted for a common attribute, and go through a second layer of sorting by identifying another set of attributes. The children have learnt how to identify a sub-set. In our last unit of the workbook, the children are introduced to rows and columns in a data table and its header, which is a row at the top of a table used to label each column. They also learnt how the first column can be used to contain headings for each row.

Using your items found at home, CM Step 3-ers, are you able to sort and re-sort them, and create your own data table?

These past 2 lessons have helped out focus on the attributes on the objects around us, first identifying their attributes and then focusing on a specific attribute to construct patterns.

This week we learnt how to identify the center of a circle and its radius. We also learnt how to draw them with our manipulatives consisting of compass rods and a compass board. In the second part of our unit, we learnt how to use a compass to draw circles, and we learnt how to draw identically-sized circles side by side, just touching each other on their circumference.

🌟 Identify and count the number of circles in a group of overlapping circles

This week we learnt about the attributes of circles and the area it occupies relative to its size. In our Math Plus story, we also find out why manhole covers and cooking pot covers are designed to be round, and not a triangle or a square. So that even if it is placed upright, it would not fall through the hole! In the second half of our lesson, we challenged ourselves in counting the number of circles in a complicated collection of overlapping circles of various sizes.⭕️🟢🟤🟣

What shapes do you see when 2 circles overlap a part of each other, CM Level 1-ers? What about when 3 or more circles overlap one another partially?

This week we learnt about the attributes of three different shapes! Specifically, the quadrilaterals, triangles and circles. Using our Puzzle Board and Shape Fragment Puzzles, we enjoyed a fun game of making up these 3 shapes with fragmented puzzle pieces. In the second half of our unit, we learnt how to spot the 3 basic shapes from various angles in the world around us.

In the last section of the workbook, we discovered that our ordinal numbers and the relative positions change depending on our perspectiven and the direction in which we are counting.

What did we discover in Creative Math this week?
🌟 Division of a 2-digit number (with a number in the ones place) by a 1-digit number
🌟 Checking Division (e.g. multiply the quotient by the number being divided and then add the remainder)

In this last unit of Book 4, we continued to work on solving division sentences by decomposing larger numbers into groups of smaller and more easily divisible numbers. We also learnt the importance of working backwards with multiplication to sharpen our abilities of self-correction. The ability to self-correct is a crucial Sub-conscious Learning Ability that we seek to enhance in all our CM students.

One of the most important learning habits we can develop, CM Level 4-ers, is the ability to self-correct our work. Can you imagine if a pharmacist was careless in dispensing medicine? Or if a dentist was careless when pulling out the correct tooth?!😬  How important is it to maintain a habit of careful work and self-correction?

🌟 Subtracting time in minutes and seconds

In this last unit of Book 4, we learnt how to add time AND subtract time in minutes and seconds. We note that 60 seconds make a minute; and 60 minutes make an hour, which is crucial in our calculations.

In regular Math, we use a decimal system which means that we think in groups of 10s - 10 ones make a ten, 10 tens make a hundred, 10 hundreds make a thousand and so forth. Did you notice that we don't quite think in groups of 10 when telling time, CM Level 3-ers? 🧭⏱

In this last unit of Book 4, we were introduced to a number chart and we observed and discussed several rules we can identify on a number chart. Once we were familiar with these rules on the number chart, we could fill in missing numbers in segments of the number chart. In the second part of the unit, we continued to study number sequences and how to continue a sequence with the rule governing that sequence.

In our Math Plus story today, we were introduced to one of the most famous number sequences discovered by Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci - the Fibonacci numbers. The Fibonaci numbers occur in nature and all around us, such as in flower petals or pineapple skin. Can you discover your own number sequence, CM Level 2-ers? 👩🏻‍🎓🧑‍🎓👨🏽‍🎓

Pattern blocks facilitate in helping us grasp concepts in shapes, colour, counting, number and measurements, strengthening our abilities in spatial reasoning and enhancing our creative thinking!

🌟 Using the positional language we have learnt to describe the position and direction of objects

In this topic revolving around Geometry, the Playground set of manipulatives used provided the children with a highly engaging and very entertaining few weeks of learning all about Positional language! We learnt and practised using positional language through a series of fun games and activities. The recognition of spatial relationships develops awareness of alternate perspectives. This aids in reducing centration, or the tendency of a child to focus attention on one aspect of situation, ignoring all others, thereby opening the possibility of viewing a situation from alternative perspectives, and developing their creativity.

While this was fun, the topic has come to an end, CM Step 2-ers. Do continue playing the games at home... meanwhile, what are going to be learning next week? You'll find out soon!

In this topic of Geometry, and through our Cube Puzzle Set, we learnt and practised some very important foundational skills! The ability to recognise an object from its part or whole aids in early cognitive development and shifting young children from egocentrism thereby encouraging them to consider alternative perspectives. The learning outcome of this workbook's topic works to reduce centration, or the tendency of the child to focus attention on one aspect of situation and ignore all others. We also learnt how to identify traits of an object, compare and sort them by trait. This prepares young minds for data collection and classification skills needed for complex Big Data harnessing and Analytics later in life.

This week, we solidified our understanding of the linearity of time and the ways of recording and measuring it, such as by  exploring the concepts of "before" and "after" with the help of our manipulatives. In the second half of the lesson, we also learnt to record and measure time that has gone by and how to calculate it.

Scientists have determined that time is linear because of the ways in which we record and measure it. Are there times in your life when you feel like time doesn't pass at the same rate, CM Level 3-ers? Such as when you are playing a fun game compared with when you are waiting for someone? 🧭⏱

This week, we solidified our understanding on counting whole integers and skip counting. We familiarised ourselves with skip counting by 100s and 10s, as well as the place value of single digits, tens and hundreds. In the second unit of our chapter, we extended our learning to the number One Thousand.

Can you see a pattern in the way we count and skip count, CM Level 2-ers? 999 and 1000 are very big numbers and appear very different but what is the difference of these numbers? You know it. 😎

🌟 Ordering numbers up to 100
🌟 Describing a given number pattern using language such as "1 more/less" or "10 more/less" to find the missing numbers

This week, we worked on understanding the number system and the ordering of numbers, all the way up to 100. Understanding this number line well helps us to relate one number to another. In the second unit of our chapter, we started to look at numbers that are 1  more or less than another number. And then, we moved on to working out numbers that are 10 more or less than another number.

Could you work out what is 11 more than or less than another number, CM Level 1-ers? What if it were 20? Or 41? Can you figure it out?

What did we discover in Creative Math this week?
🌟 Recognising and identifying the Hexagon, Trapezium, Parallelogram, Triangle, Square and Rhombus
🌟 Forming hexagons with other regular shapes

We were introduced to 6 different pattern blocks (Hexagon, Trapezium, Parallelogram, Triangle, Square and Rhombus) this week. We tried putting them together in different ways to form complex 2-dimensional forms, such as an apple, a pineapple, and even various animals! In the second half of the lesson, we learnt more about shapes, colour, counting, number, estimation and measurements. Interacting with pattern blocks are a way of introducing to young children the early steps of problem solving. 🤓🔻🟪♦️

Look around you every day, can you "see" pattern blocks all around you, CM Step 3-ers? 💪🏻 Let your teachers know!

Through a fun story about our animal friends in Unit 1🦒🦌🐻🦁, we learnt all about relative positions and the language we use to describe the animals and their positions in line. In Unit 2, we increased our positional language vocabulary in a huge way! This week, we learnt about how and why we use words such as "in front of", "behind", "above" and "over", "on top of", "below", "under", "beside" and "next to".

Think about your seating position in CM class, CM Step 2-ers. Are you "in front of" or "behind" your teacher? Can you describe your seating position to your Mummies and Daddies? What about your friends and other things you see in your classroom?

In the first lesson of the term, we worked on developing crucial observational skills by collecting data, understanding and interpreting the meaning of the information using all our senses. We also learnt how to identify, compare and sort traits and characteristics of objects, and then classifiying them as same or different. All of these skills are broad foundations of complex thought and problem solving later in life.

What did we discover in Creative Math this week?
🌟 Multiplication of a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number without regrouping
🌟 Multiplication of a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number with regrouping

For the first workbook of our new term, we delve into Multiplication of 3 digit numbers with a single digit number. By first understanding the concrete concept of quantity multiplication, we were able to understand the logic behind our working. In the first half of the unit, we worked on simple quantities that did not require grouping. Once we solidified that knowledge, we then worked on numbers that did require regrouping of quantities in the multiplication process.

CM Level 4-ers, in class, we worked out a few exercises this week that tested us on working out multiplication problems mentally. Are you able to continue working on your mental exercises throughout the week? As they say, Practice makes Better! 🏆🏅

🌟 Telling Time in 1-minute intervals

For the first workbook of our new term, we are returning to a very important skill and knowledge we need for functioning in our daily lives - telling time! In the first part of this unit, we learnt that the concept of time measurement was inspired by  Galileo's observation of the swinging pendulum. In the second part of the unit, we revised the representations of the elements of the clock face, in particular, the short lines and spaces between each number on the face of the clock.

Many children in this week's class made the connection that telling time to 5-minute intervals, requires knowledge of the 5 times table! Did you make that connection, too, CM Level 3-ers? ⏰✖️5️⃣

🌟 Dividing up Big Circles by Drawing Smaller Circles
🌟 Dividing up Big Circles by Drawing Lines

In the first part of the unit, we divided larger circles into several sections by drawing smaller circles fully within the larger circle. What a fun introduction to subsets! We also practised counting multiple subsets created by smaller circles in a larger circle. In the second part of the last unit, we practised dividing larger circles into given segments by drawing straight lines across, such dividing a larger circle into 7 segments with 3 lines.

🌟 Using Geometric Shapes to Form Pictures

In the last unit of our Different Shapes workbook, we learnt all about geometric shapes and their attributes. We also uncovered geometric shapes in drawings and art pieces. We talked about one of the most famous abstract artists in the world - Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky who chose to use geometric shapes and colours to express his thoughts and feelings. In the last section of the workbook, we used our creativity to construct a story out of the figure we made using our shape fragment puzzle.

🌟 Duration of Time
🌟 Tellling Time to the Hour

This week, we found out how time could only be read in ancient civilisation with a sundial when it was sunny, but not on cloudy days, until the water clock was invented. We practised calculating duration by the number of hours, as a prelude to calculating increasing metric subdivions in the coming weeks. In the second part of our unit, we continued to explore how clock hands move by being our clocks' gear and cog - the full rotation of the minute hand causes the hour hand to move a notch, which means that for each full circle the minute hand turns, the the hour hand would have turned 1/12th of that. What about the relation between the minute and second hands?

For our last workbook for the term, we returned to developing our spatial awareness in Geometry. This week, we explored the differences between plane figures and solid figures. We also counted the number of building blocks it takes to form a 3-dimensional structure. We thought about the blocks that we can see because they are unblocked, and we also considered the blocks that we could not see because they were blocked from our view.

For our last workbook for the term, we were introduced to a very interesting puzzle in Geometry known as the Tangram, which is made up of a total of 7 geometric shapes - 5 triangles of 3 different sizes, 1 square and 1 parallelogram. The objective of our games was to replicate various patterns given only the outline. After which, we explored making triangles in various ways.

What did we discover in Creative Math this week?
🌟 Division of whole tens (ie, a 2-digit number with a "0" in the ones place) by a 1-digit number
🌟 Quotient and Remainder

In Part 1 of Unit 3, we take a look at what it means to divide whole tens into groups by looking at each whole ten as a single unit or by breaking them up into smaller units. We also practised to familiarise with our division working method, which shall be very crucial for longer dividends. In the second part of this unit, we continued to solve division sentences which do not divide evenly and now give us a quotient and and a remainder, which is can then be expressed as a fraction or a decimal.

In our Math Plus story this week, we discovered an interesting fact, that the paper we use for our print and copy machines use descending paper sizes that are just halved. If we continuously halved a number, will it ever become zero, CM Level 4-ers? Have a think about it. ❓🤔

What did we discover in Creative Math this week?
🌟 Understanding AM and PM
🌟 Understanding the relation between start time, finish time and duration, and determining one given the other two variables

In Part 1 of Unit 3, we introduced a timeline to help us visualise the time that has passed in a linear way, We established that AM (or Ante meridiem) denotes a time before noon, and PM (or Post meridiem) denotes a time that is after noon. We then went on to to solidify our understanding and reading of the 24-hour clock and the determination of time passed in hours and minutes. In the second part of the unit, we focused our attention on time durations shorter than a minute.

In our Math Plus story this week, the day was divided into 12 2-hour periods back in ancient China? Can you think of how using the ancient time-telling systems would affect your life today, CM Level 3-ers? What would your day be like? 🧭⏱

🌟 Permutating 3 digits to form 3-Digit numbers and Comparing them

In Part 1 of Unit 3, we learnt how to compare two 3-digit numbers and correctly determine the larger value of the two. We also familiarised ourselves with the inequality signs and learnt how to write an inequality Math sentence. In the second part of the unit, we learnt how to systematically permutate 3 single digits to form 3-digit numbers, and then compare them and order the 3-digit numbers in order of magnitude.

Permutation is the action of arranging our digits into several possible ways.What happens if we had 2 identical digits, CM Level 2-ers? Can we still have 6 different permutations? 🤔

🌟 Different Methods of Comparing Volume
🌟 Introduction to Units of Volume

This week, we started on a new new chapter of fun with volumes! We discovered how we could compare the volume of irregularly shaped containers by pouring out all the liquid into smaller containers of the same size and shape. We learnt how to break down a large volume into smaller, measurable quantities. In the second half of the unit, we learnt all about standard international units of volume - Litres and Millilitres, their abbreviation and how they relate to each other. We also tried to relate this uncountable mass of liquid with concrete, countable blocks to help us better understand volume.

CM Level 4-ers, we read this week about how the first raingauge was invented in Korea in 1441, more than 480 years ago! How did it help mankind back then? And does it still help us in Singapore today?

🌟 Remembering Shapes

This week, we honed our spatial reasoning skills by looking at 3-dimensional figures built with identical cubes. We experimented and explored looking at them from all angles, and uncovered new perspectives when we rotate or flip the 3-dimensional figure. In the second half of our unit, we tried to remember what we saw, and then try to recreate the 3-dimensional figure by using our imagination and some creative problem solving to add or remove blocks to solve our puzzles.

🌟 Introduction to Unit of Length

This week, we discovered that we sometimes cannot compare lengths just by looking at them. We need to use a tool to measure them. This lesson forms a concrete example of introducing a fixed and unknown variable to compare 2 varying and unknown variables - a common concept we use in modelling in Primary school. In the second part of the book, we learn about units of length and their importance.

CM Level 2-ers, now that you know how to to a fixed tool to measure the length of 2 different items, so that you can then compare those 2 items, could you try to do this and compared the ages of 2 people?

🌟 Attributes of a Clock Face
🌟 Identifying Errors

This week, we honed our observation skills by trying to carefully observe details by first understanding the attributes of a common everyday object - the clock. Once we had identified the attributes of an analogue clock face, we challenged ourselves through a series of practices to spot an error, identify the error and then correct it. This series of exercises, taken at the broadest level, is universal our focus on data errors and ultimately errors presented in more abstract cases. Our approach toward learning in our CM classes contribute to the self-critical, self-correcting, ever-evolving practice of Math, and ultimately to furthering and extending our skills into other disciplines.

CM Level 1-ers, this might have been a deceivingly simple lesson on telling time, but the underlying skills of observation and analysis you had developed this extend far beyond the realm of Math. 🍲4🤔

In the second week of our Train Puzzles workbook, we extended our knowledge of the order of numbers by learning their ordinal numbers. We learnt that we can use ordinal numbers to identify physical positions. In the last section of the workbook, we discovered that our ordinal numbers and the relative positions change depending on our perspectiven and the direction in which we are counting.

Other than position, CM Step 2-ers, can we number our positions in any other way? For example by age? What position are you in your family in ascending age? Or descending age?

In the second part of the lesson, we are introduced to using spatial logic to infer the entirety of a concrete object by trying to understand, reason, and remember the visual and spatial relations among the objects.

Continuing with our lesson on Tangrams this week, we talked about the properties of Quadrilaterals and then explored how to form Quadrilaterals of different properties using our Tangram pieces. In the second half of our lesson, we used all 7 tangram pieces to complete outlines given to us. Through the puzzles and our games, we strengthened our understanding of the relationship between shape and area of the pieces.

This week, we extended our Math positional language to include positions assuming that objects are placed in a a line or sequence with a start position and an end position. We learnt the relationship between the physical positions. This provides a crucial foundation for the children to gain understanding of abstract positioning, such as numbers on a number line. In the second unit, we learnt to describe an object's positions from our positions and them moved on top describe an object's position from others.

🌟 Identifying quadrilaterals and making them using pattern blocks

In the first part of the lesson, we worked with more pattern blocks, making various figures through composition and decomposition of geometric pattern blocks. In the second part of the lesson, we turned the spotlight onto Quadrilaterals! We learnt how to identify their features and created different forms of quadrilaterals using the pattern blocks. Using our newly developed critical thinking skills in geometric shapes, we played a game competing to form quadrilaterals that required as few pieces of pattern blocks as possible.

Where can we see quadrilaterals in our everyday lives, CM Step3-ers? Try and spot one, and when you go directly in front of it, is it still the same shape?  🧐🤔😲

This week we learnt about rules, patterns and sequences. This week, we activate our kinetic, aural, visual and symbolic learning senses through rhythm and movement in our lesson to explore patterns! From different objects in a sequence, we progressed to different shapes in a sequence. We attempted to seek out rules from simple patterns, making a hypothesis about the next shape in the sequence, and finally we checked ourselves for correctness.

At its simplest level, data is the information we collect—knowingly or otherwise—about the world around us. Your children have been doing it from the moment they were born, but this month, in Sorting Set, the children learn how to identify attributes of qualities of an object with increasing precision. They also classify and sort the objects around them into meaningful order. This leads to later understanding of how to sort abstract data, and over the course of Creative Math, the children shall learn to comprehend the story that the data is telling.

🌟 Radii and Line Segments
🌟 Diameter of a Circle

In our second lesson with the Circles manipulatives, we explore the relationship between Radii and Line Segments, and we learnt how to draw circles given certain conditions, such as circles which touch and which have centers a certain distance apart. In the second part of our unit, we extended our learning to Diameter of circles. We also explored their relationship and made connections in various ways through practise.

In our Math Plus story this week, we learnt about the Vitruvian Man drawn by the famed scientist Leonard Da Vinci. Are you able to check using yourself or  your family members as a test to check if his theory is true, CM Level 4-ers?

In our second lesson with our super fun manipulatives, we learnt about the attributes of triangles and how to describe them. As we used our Geo-boards to form various triangles with our rubber bands, we learnt how to relate them to the symbolic pictures on our workbooks!

🌟 Recognising and drawing different shapes
🌟 Form a 2D shape from cut-out pieces of the shape

In our second lesson in this Geometry topic, we learnt how to recognise different shapes, even when they are rotated, flipped over or even upside down! We also picked up quite a few skills this lesson, such as transferring an image on a grid to another using similar reference points and classifying the shapes by the number of sides they have! In the second part of our unit, we learnt that putting 2 or more basic shapes together can form a new shape! We also learnt that we can make different shapes even by placing the same 2 shapes in different positions.

What did we discover in Creative Math in this topic?
🌟 Using parts of circles to create elaborate patterns
🌟 Drawing different circles given varying rules

We started off the first part of our unit realising that we can create very accurate, elaborate patterns and pictures using parts of a circle, varying them only by changing the centre of the circle. In the second part of the unit, we used grid paper as a guide for our patterns and rules. We learnt how to decipher and create our own rules of various circles in relation to the centre point and radii.

This week in our Math Plus story, we learnt about 𝜋 (pi), which has been a matter of interest for over 4,000 years! Pi exists in many mathematical and scientific applications. Do you know that the international math commmunity celebrate Pi Day every year, CM Level 4-ers? Do you guess which day it is?

🌟 Introduction to Pentominoes
🌟 Piecing pentominoes together to form rectangles

This week, we're introduced to Pentominoes, shapes that use five square blocks joined edge to edge to form various combinations! We first tried to arrange 3 square blocks and 4 square blocks in as many ways we could possibly can, and then we discovered for ourselves the various combinations of pentominoes. In the second half of the unit, we pieced pentomino pieces together to form rectangles. No easy task, but our CM students did amazingly!

Do you know that the word Pentomino is derived from the Greek words for '5', and "domino", CM Level 3-ers?

🌟 Identifying sides and vertices of quadrilaterals

This week, we are introduced to Quadrilaterals, otherwise known as 4-sided shapes. We formed all sorts and sizes of 4-sided shapes on our geo-board. We then played a game, challenging ourselves to form as many quadrilaterals as we possibly can with a given number of rubber bands on our geo-boards. In the second part of the lesson, we discovered the attributes of quadrilaterals and how to express them in Mathematical language.

🌟 Identifying "Hidden" Shapes in a Shadow figure of Overlapping shapes

This week, we combined our skills of shape identification and data classification to sort and group our shapes. In the second half of the lesson, we challenged ourselves to find and identify distinct shapes in the shadow figures of multiple overlapping shapes.

We learnt this week that not all triangles and quadrilaterals can look very different even though they belong in the same shape group. But, what about circles, CM Level 1-ers?

🌟 Subtracting Volumes

In our third unit, we wrote out addition sentences with both L and mL units. We then observed the representation of addition through vertical additions as well as the depiction of addition on the number line. We practised reading, understanding and solving problem sums through the vertical addition method. In the second half of our unit we moved on to subtraction of volume. We conitnued to practise our methods of vertical subtraction because Practise Makes Better!

CM Level 4-ers, If volume is the amount of 3-D solid, liquid or gas contained by a closed surface, liquid volume is a way to measure an amount of liquid by describing how much 3-D space it occupies. Do you agree?

🌟 Making Shapes Using a Given Number of Cubes

In our third unit, we were introduced to using numbers within our 3-D figure's outline spaces to represent the number of levels stacked. This lesson challenges our spatial reasoning and is an early introduction to the concept of contour lines used in topographical maps. In the second half of the unit, we challenged ourselves to come up with all possible configurations of 3-D figures given a certain number of blocks - first 4, then 5.

CM Level 3-ers, how many possible configurations can we make using 4 building blocks? What about when we use 5 building blocks? What do you think is the number of possible configurations if we were to use 6 building blocks?

🌟 Measuring Lengths in cm with Different Types of Rulers
🌟 Estimating

In our third unit, we had a lot of hands-on fun using straight stiff rulers and bendy rulers measuring lengths of various items in the book. In the second half of the unit, we explore a very important skill - estimating. Estimating is important because it helps us determine the reasonableness of our answer; it is a skill that requires us to conceptualize and mentally manipulate numbers if we're dealing with numbers. If we're dealing with length, extending this skill allows us to estimate distances, which is an important part of executive functioning.

In real life, estimation is part of our everyday experience, CM Level 2-ers. Can you think of situations in your lives when you have had to do estimations?

🌟 Telling Time to Half Past
🌟 Showing Time to Half Past

In our third unit, we solidified our knowledge of telling time. We looked at the various representations of time when it is half past the hour. And then we practised reasoning backwards to solve an inverse problem - it is important for us to be able to practise lateral thinking shifts in terms of time, as well as relating that to time. This all helps us in Time estimation later which is an important part of our Executive Thinking Skills.

The term "o' clock" is derived from the phrase "of the clock". Hundreds of years ago, when there were different ways of telling time, people would use the phrase "of the clock" to indicate it is time read from the clock. What about the other ways of telling time, CM Level 1-ers, why do you think we don't use them anymore?

🌟 Solving Problems with Volume
🌟 Making a Given Volume with only Containers of Known Capacities

In our last lesson of the term, we found ourselves trying to solve some problems in the context of volume. We draw pictures to help us envision the problem and the changes to our subject volume in the question. This is an important and crucial understanding to the basis of modelling. We extend our critical problem solving skills in the last part of the unit - using some given known container capacities to form a certain volume. On the abstract level, we are using the given volumes as minuends and subtrahends to use their differences as a component of another addition story. We are basically creatively trying to think of all variations of addition and subtraction possibilities in order to derive our final answer. It was challenging but you all did a great job, children!

In our Math Plus this week, CM Level 4-ers, we talked about our water footprints. How much of a water footprint do you think you leave? And what steps can you take to reduce your water footprint? Can you discuss with your family and take steps together as a family?

🌟 Building Objects Given Views of the Top, Front and Side

In our last lesson of the term, we challenged ourselves to examine a 3-D figure made with our building blocks, and then try to visualise the top, front and side views of the figure we were presented with. We had to rotate our figures along the x- and z-axes to find our answers. In the last part of the workbook, we practised reasoning backwards to solve an inverse problem - we challenged ourselves to visualise the 3-D figure, given the top, front and side views.

In our last lesson of the term, we extended our concepts of lengths to a larger magnitude - we measured and considered lengths over 100cm or even longer than our arms are outstretched! In the second part of the unit, we then worked on computing lengths and finding sums or differences. We practised using diagrams, understanding and solving problem sums through the vertical addition and subtraction methods because Practice makes better!

In our last lesson of the term, we extended our concepts of length to a 2-D model - the timeline! We discussed chronological order and had conversations revolving around "earlier than" and "later than". With a deepened understanding of time depicted over a period, we then explored the possible in-between times of a start and an end time. We also continued to develop our time estimation skills to help us in our everyday lives.
