Dear, Reader

These days, social media is pervasive and has altered how we communicate and interact with one another. No matter where they live, it makes it simple to stay in contact with friends and family. Even though we live far apart, we can communicate, share moments, and feel linked.

It's not all positive, though. Overuse of the internet can occasionally diminish the significance of relationships in real life. We may rely too much on fast texts or likes on a post rather than meeting together in person or having meaningful talks. It's important to consider if social media is bringing us closer together or further separating us.

The most difficult part was maintaining thought-out, accurate, and topical relevance while striking a balance between creative and factual research. I discovered that using interviews and real-life experiences gave me a more realistic and genuine knowledge of how social media affects relationships and communication.

Diary Entry

Diary Entry

Date : December 7, 2024

One of those days that forced me to take notice in my life was today. I realized how much I've been depending on social media and how little I've been genuinely interacting with those around me. Despite having thousands of followers, I've come to the realization that the more I browse through my phone, the more alienated I feel. Online, I feel like I'm surrounded by others, yet I’m alone myself.

My teammate Ari’s comment about how preoccupied we've all been at soccer practice lately really got to me. Instead of cooperating as a team, everyone is more concerned with checking posts. Though I didn't want to acknowledge it, I knew she was correct. But something must be different.

To my surprise, Ari and the entire team agreed when I proposed that we take a week off from social media. At first, it was strange just us, no posts, no notifications. However, as we got going, everything felt different. Instead of only staring at our phones, the crew began having genuine conversations with one another. During practice, we collaborated, joked, and performed better.

When we won the game today, it wasn’t just about victory, it felt like we’d rediscovered something important: real connections. We were there for each other, not because of some digital image, but because we were genuinely together.

I feel like I learned something today. I don’t need to be online all the time to feel connected. It’s the people in my life, the ones I see face-to-face, who matter the most. I’m going to try to focus more on that.

- Josiah

With a world of virtual likes and comments all around him, Josiah sat by himself in his room, browsing social media. However, something didn't feel right. Even though he had thousands of followers, he felt alienated.

Ari, his best friend and teammate, sent him a message:
Ari: "We must speak. At practice, we're becoming distracted. Everybody is overly preoccupied with their phones.

Josiah let out a sigh. She was correct. Instead of playing, the team had been more concerned with updating their fans. Josiah: "I understand," he said. However, we must remain current.

Ari: "Matches are not won by relevance. Genuine connections do.

The following day, Josiah proposed that the team take a week off from social media. Ari, surprisingly, agreed.

Something changed at practice when there were no phones around. Talking, joking, and cooperating like never before, the crew reconnected. They performed with greater unity and emotion.

In their next game, they won not just because of skill, but because of the bond they’d rediscovered. Josiah smiled at Ari. "We did it. Not because of our followers, but because of us."

From that moment on, Josiah knew the best connections weren’t online, they were real, face-to-face, and built through trust.

Yes, Bryce, I know it's tempting to become absorbed in the ease of online connections in the fast-paced digital world of today. We now have amazing means to communicate, share our lives, and learn from each other regardless of distance thanks to social media and virtual platforms. But occasionally, I find myself missing the simple delight of spending time with loved ones without a screen in sight, or the warmth of a face-to-face conversation.

I've been more conscious of my interactions with people both online and offline because of writing on the effects of internet platforms. It serves as a reminder that although technology is an effective means of communication, it cannot replace the genuineness and depth of interpersonal interactions.

It's not always easy to find balance, but I'm learning to value meaningful conversations, stay in the present, and utilize digital technologies carefully. Ultimately, our lives are shaped by the relationships we have, whether they be online or in person.

Stay in touch but remember to disconnect and appreciate the amazingness of your surroundings my guy.
