Lionel should have gotten a longer sentence with a long parole, but he was only 12 years old. I think he should have "life" left to show his repentance and growth. Science does not lie, and the testimony of experts and physical evidence and forensic analysis that was provided, supported the notion that Lionel Tate was guilty because the evidence was probative and damning. The sentence that he received which was to be sentenced in the adult justice system conflicts with the legal system of giving a juvenile an adult sentence (which I thought you can't do). That is a right that juvenile criminals have. While the crime that Lionel Tate committed was horrendous, being sentenced to life with no option for probation may have been extreme or could be considered as cruel and unusual punishment. However, after people came to his defense on giving Lionel Tate a less severe sentence, less time, and probation, he continued to act in crimes during his probation which really shows his character and nature. The less severe sentence wasn't enough, but life in prison was too severe. (Depending on the state adulthood laws at the time), Tate should have been charged as an adult by the time he reached said age (16, 17, or 18). I do believe he is guilty of the homicide of TIffany Eunick, however I feel that he shouldn't have been charged as an adult and given the life in prison sentence.
