In the scene, there are two black men who work in a customer service office. The older gentleman tell the younger gentleman how he needed to turn on his "white voice" when he answers the call. When he gave him an example of what a "white voice" sounds like, a white mans voice is the voiceover. 
This narrative definitely shows how language perpetuates this stereotype between how white people talk and how black people talk showing how when white people speak it's professional. We won Mid-Mo LTAB with this choreopoem. This poem tells of a story of four different young women who are different in their own way (Brazillian, deaf mother, Hispanic, immigrant mother), but they all share a common joy and pain with the houses they grew up in. Here is a small excerpt:

"Summers dripping with red stains of watermelon 
Mosquitos biting our toes, but the damp grass a cooling tide 
The sweet dessert of “arroz con leche”, 
A  river blanket around my sunburned shoulders while papa fished with only the finest equipment
gancho y cuerda
The smells of smoke cutting through sky high dogwoods 
A beacon of a meal through a desert of sun 
Warmed sand that mamá..."

As you can see language plays a huge role in the identity of this poem and within the young ladies that perform this poem. Their code-switching or bilingual capabilities is what helps enhance their authentic self.

He tells this story (through rap) of him working for the white man and how his experiences working for them as a black man are different than if he was white. He would have to dress differently or the stereotype would be perpetuated if he didn't.

Music is a great addition to this idea of authentic self and code-switching. Music is an every day thing we consume so it's important that we pause and analyze what we may have not noticed in our music.

This is assuming that we have already discussed what identity is and how identity is broader than just appearance or characteristics about self. This time when we talk about identity, we will talk about it in the sense of language. The TedxTalk "To Code Switch or Not to Code Switch? That is the Question." Would be the perfect kick start into showing students how to answer "What is your authentic self?". I see this lesson being more of a whole-group lesson. I see us sitting in a circle and attempting to get intimate with this question. I noticed that most of my texts are centered around womxn, so I think it's important that the young men in the classroom also get some representation on the identity of the Black male (which can also relate to young males of color). This is assuming that my students are into rap music or are familiar with the rap music of today. I would like to conduct this part of the lesson in small to whole group, but not partners just yet.
