I would say this is more of an opinionated article because it argues that technology can and is beneficial in the classroom while describing some ways it can be used. I think the article is credible because it was published from an institution but it doesn't have any evidence based findings. I think readers are likely to trust it because it came from an institution but this isn't a scholarly article so it lacks the peer review research. So to me it is still credible but not strong enough to be a source in a paper.

I would say this is an evidence/informational article. Since it comes from the Institute of Education Sciences, I would say the credibility is very high. To me the article seems well informed and researched. It would be good as a tool for context in other articles. It can also help with making technology based decisions.

I would say this is also an opinion based article. This article seems to be published on an educational platform. That would give it credibility however, there are no specific sites or data linked to the article, but it is based on someone's experience. However, I don't know this person so the credibility would go down a bit more for me.

Question 4

When I look at different articles on research, I always think it is important to think about the students the research was done on. As this fact can effect how effective the methods I'm taking from this research is. As I wouldn't take a study done on kindergarteners and apply it to high school students as I'm intending to teach. But I think many of the things in the articles were true. Our generation and the ones to come are growing up with technology, and as teachers, it is better to integrate it into our world and lesson plans now rather than falling behind the times. There is many great tools that can assist us in furthering our students' education.

In the classrooms I have seen students using technology mostly on their computers. Recently we used google slide to build our presentations the review concepts.

I think technology can be used to help develop critical thinking especially when used in the right format. If you have students do things like kahoots then they are developing their recall skills as well as comprehension. In the lesson I did it did help critical think cause students were asked to engage with the text and explain in their own words.

I would have students compare peer reviewed sources to further the critical thinking. Or maybe by allowing them to compare and argue two characters perspectives they can further critical understanding as well.

In my English class we were asked to write a persuasive speech about something we were passionate about within either the school or outside community. We had to keep in mind things like our audience and if we should use ethos, pathos, or logos to support our argument and make it the strongest. I choose to write about more mental health support for students.

I would probably do a version of the same assignment I did to tie in the real world and make sure my students can apply what they learned. But instead of speeches maybe have them write letters so they get a different form of writing. This way students are staying relevant on what is happening beyond the classroom and they can carry letter writing skills and persuasive skills into the real world.

I believe somethings have to be filtered in school as they simply aren't appropriate for the space. Unrestricted web access can be a scary place for a child at any age. But in order to keep school a place of learning I think it is a good idea to block certain things. I just wish you had the ability as staff to unblock certain sites or images that aren't unsafe but may still be flagged.

GoGuardian- usually a district wide and does web and content filtering

Impero - real time visibility and the ability to control content as well as an age appropriate policy management

I don't think either of these sites influenced my beliefs I still think the internet is a scary place and should be restricted for kids especially in a school

one example of someone not being safe while using the internet is the one about the mom who was cyberbullying her own child and her boyfriend. The mother ended up going to jail in that case but I think it shows how both children and adults need to practice internet safety.

I think the best option would be technology vs technology. I can't constantly watch all my students screens, however they make tech for that too, so why not pre flag some sites to make sure my students are focusing on learning. But I also think showing them students round their age who fell victim of unsafe internet could also show them that it is a real thing and their are reason internet safety is taught.

I haven't personally been in a situation but I use to watch the stories about kids getting cyber bullied or someone losing their information over a scam. Situations like these I can show my students to show them it can happen to anyone from their age to older adults because anything that is on the internet is there forever and might not be locked up the way people think it is.

use controls and restrict access, educate them, and try my best to supervise what students are doing on school time. But I can also teach them to recognize and report any concerns to a trusted adult.
