This picture I took is in the same shopping center as my other post, this is a double check valve assembly. These are specifically used for back flow prevention in the water distribution system for this shopping center. They prevent possible water contamination due to back pressure, and also prevent backward flow from a private plumbing system into public drinking water supply.

I saw these water distribution components in front of a municipal water district facility. I couldn't stop to get a better photo of a specific component, but I'm pretty sure the larger, some-what round tank is a pressure sand filter that filters out turbidity from the water. You can kind of make out some other components, like gate/shut off valves to stop the flow (they have hand-wheels), what look like pressure control valves, maybe, and the pump.

In conjunction with my previous post, I took this photo across the street from the pump station- this is a fire backflow prevention assembly servicing a sheriff's department complex. Actually, I think the pipe in that photo runs to this backflow device. Backflow devices have check valves that prevent water from going back into the distribution system, prevention contamination via cross-connection. The handwheels are on shut-off valves in case the water needs to be shut off.

This ultrasonic meter is currently used as a master meter for our recycled water program. We measure the flow that leaves our purple pipe to recycle water users. This specific meter uses ultrasonic technology which is sound waves and the waters speed to measure the flow.

This RP device is one that I see every day driving on my way to work. RP devices are used in high hazard situations. They can protect against both back pressure and back siphonage. Backflow preventers are important for protecting water quality and the water distribution system. -Emily

This is an RP device that I drive by every day on my way to work. These devices work best for high hazard situations. They prevent back flow and back siphonage from entering a distribution system and are critical to keeping our water system safe.

Hi class, this is a photo of a backflow device near my work. This backflow device if a reduced pressure device(RP). The relief valve in the center, under the pipe indicates to me this is an RP. I believe this device is most likely for fire service. It also looks like there is a water meter upstream of the relief valve, maybe a Venturi meter.

Hi class, this is a photo of the water meter at my families property line where the main line connects to the service line. The water meter is a Neptune T-10 water meter which measures usage volume and monitors for leaks. I was curious why it doesn't seem to have a visible reading?
