According to Paris et al. (2021) there are 5 major periods of childhood development; which are:

Prenatal Development - The development before the child is out of the womb and is still an embryo.

Infancy and Toddlerhood - The first 2 years of a child's life where they learn their motor, perceptual skills, intellect, and beginnings of language.

Early Childhood - 2-6 years of a child. They use this period to refine all of the skills they have learned in infancy and toddlerhood.

Middle Childhood - The child gains a wider outlook on life and learns more about their surroundings and their rules.

Adolescence - Where the child develops physical and emotional changes, wherein they undergo through puberty.

Reference:

Paris, Ricardo, Raymond, & Johnson.
