In typography, the upward vertical stem on some lowercase letters, such as h and b, that extends above the x-height is the ascender. The height of the ascenders is an identifying characteristic of many typefaces.

The ascenders of some letters may touch or almost touch letters in the line above causing awkward or distracting patterns. This is most likely to happen or be obvious when a line of text with tall ascenders is below a line of text with long descenders. To resolve the problem of touching ascenders and descenders you can: Increase the leading (line spacing) between lines of type; Choose a different typeface; For headlines and subheads, some careful editing/re-wording can eliminate the problem; Changing the alignment of the text may also help.

The word ‘leading’ originates from the strips of lead hand-typesetters used to use to space out lines of text evenly.

The two units of measurement most commonly used for typesetting and design are points and picas. While their exact “sizes” have evolved slightly over the centuries, the following explanations clarify the current accepted definitions and representations. It’s simple to convert either measurement to the other unit.

Points

A point is equal to 1/72 inch. To be extremely precise, 1 point is equal to .013836 inch, so 72 points are actually .996264 inch. For practical purposes, this is rounded up. Points are the measurement most commonly used in print to indicate the size of type, as well as the space between lines, referred to as line spacing or leading. In some instances, points are also used to measure the width and depth of a column. Points are routinely abbreviated as ‘pt’; typographers and typesetters have traditionally specified a given type setting as 12/16, to indicate 12 point type with 16 point leading.

Pica

A pica is a hair less than 1/6 inch, and contains 12 points. Picas are typically used to represent fixed horizontal measurements, most often column width. They are commonly used when designing newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and ads. Picas are designated with the letter p, such as 16p. For instance, the standard width for one column of text on a three-column grid on an 8.5" x 11" document is 14 picas and 4 points, or 14p4.

His works were greatly admired by man like Benjamin Franklin, that used his typefaces in most of the newly created USA's federal government publishing.
He was a inventor also, and was responsible for many innovations in printing, paper and ink production. If we got inspired by him, or if he got inspired in the truth about photography, according to my belief that photography, as an art, is deeply related to comunication, and if there is effectiveness regarding comunication, there is also the best ways of comunicating something, that are the best ways of performing some art.

I went to casa plana, a book shop that sells independent publications and exquisite book editions by small editors. I'll register some of the ideas to maybe use later.

I would like to make some remarks about the publications I've seen there.
1 - A lot of publications there were writings. I got a little disappointed everytime that I opened a beautifully designed book and inside of it there was only text. Why? I'm not sure. I think it was because I was expecting artwork inside the books, diferent forms of language, and the extremally laboured artwork of some covers didn't match at all with the roughtness of the standart text diagramation style. There was some noise there.
2 - a lot of the publications were very cliche stuff about personal experiences and general experiences that I would define as click bait themed artwork. I got kind of disappointed on the content of most of the zines there. Although they could be beautiful, most of them lacked of meaning.
3 - I don't believe in pure subjectiveness in all senses. I don't think that people having diferent tastes mean that truth is not real and that there is not an objective ideal way of perform an idea through an artwork.
4 - I realised that some people may like something about a work and apply that feeling to the hole. I did it myself. For example I saw some cover designs of an editorial series, and i loved it. But at the same time, I didn't wanted to buy it. altough the covers were beautiful, The style didn't applied to a lot of the titles, and didn't work att all as a standart style for a series of unconected themes. I though that some people can, for example, like the cover and apply that feeling to the hole.

Thats some of the conclusions I had.

It a book where every page has a cut of a diferent geometric shape in a diferent paper color. The hole piece is needed. It isn't like the sexidents one, where the binding is not related to the drawings, that are not necessarily related to the content. This one design is the piece, the drawings (cuts) are the content.

To be honest i'm not a fan of protests. I think the collective mentallity on where big protests emerge can be more dangerous than whatever the people involved in the protests are against. Also protests can vindicate bad stuff.
To me it's not a virtue to be a protester: a virtuous person can be one, as well a non virtuous person. A good artist can be a protester that can make beautiful art - that has it value as a visual and communication piece (as well as a piece that invokes beauty and harmony) - and at the same time be a stupid dude with a limited vision of the things. It's not virtuous to unite people to change stuff by the name of change and good, because by the name doesn't mean by IT. When michael was talking about 1968 I realised that, cuz a lot of symbols apeared and he portrailed it like something good, people advocating for change and crating powerful symbols to be intentifiable. Well, the nazi party in nazi german also had a powerful symbol, the suastica. Powerfull symbols and people united for change, in the name of the good of mankind and whatever CAN BE BAD.
I'm not a fan of protests because of that. To me, most people are stupid and protests for stupid stuff based on limited views of life and world.
1968 was a time where the protest theme got viral.
A lot of nice art were produced but i'm not sure about the goals of the protests.

Nieum Amsterdam is a work on which dali questioned ownership and authorship, transforming another artist work into his own to depict the change in the ownership of New York, bought from the natives by a derisive amount. It says about evolution, progression, and transformation not only of artwork but of everything. I saw this work live at st petersburg dali museum.

Salvador dali - Nieum Amsterdam

She revisited a work she did in 2002 a few times and everytime something different appeared. It reminded me a quote from picasso where he says that if he knew how his work would be he wouldnt do it, and i think that thats the reason why she did the work she did with those hands.

- Vibrant colors, like orange and yellow, are stimulating. "These colors that bring us back into the sunlight and automatically make our body produce the hormone serotonin, bring us a sense of well-being and stimulate learning. Yellow and gold tones enhance confidence and self-esteem.
- A vibrant and energizing color, orange portrays mood, attracts consumers and stimulates creativity. Like red, it is very active, cheerful and stimulating, with the advantage of being more pleasing to the eye. The visual experience of the orange color reflects warmth, excitement, enthusiasm, change, expansion and dynamism.
- Green has an effect that improves reading skills and is suitable for study or library locations. If the goal is to encourage imagination, the calming effect of blue may be the ideal choice. The tip also applies to a place for children's games: the smoother the tone, the more stimulating the creativity of the little ones.
