Summary of Current Innovation: Keep a Breast App

An estimated 300,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. It is important for women to do breast self-checks regularly so that they know their own "normal" and can detect any changes in their breasts that may necessitate further investigation. Early detection and treatment is key to survival. The Keep a Breast App is available as a free download on the Apple Store and Google Play to empower women to be their own health advocate. You can set a reminder to check yourself each month one week after completing your menstrual cycle (including tips if you don't have a cycle). The app provides a step by step tutorial with instructions and tips for how to thoroughly self-check your breasts. The new addition of this app offers direct access to virtual care through Carbon Health Partner to support women who detect any abnormalities.

Breast self-checks are something many women are aware that they "should" be doing, but in our fast-pace culture, taking care of our health often falls by the wayside. This app came out in 2016, and just this year, the app was updated to include a partnership with Carbon Health Partner so that women are not left to navigate what steps to take next in isolation if they detect a lump. The app provides immediate support so that women do not feel alone and emotionally overwhelmed if they detect anything concerning. This is an easy to use app that allows women of all ages to incorporate self-care and breast health into their busy schedules. We all check our phones countless times per day so a modern reminder of prioritizing your health is of great benefit to women everywhere. I downloaded this app and plan on beginning to use it to build this healthy habit as well as promote it to family and friends. It can truly aid in early detection which increases breast cancer survival rates. Additionally, the app provides access to a community of women who use the app and empowers women to not feel alone in their journey.

Using Strengths to form an Evaluation Team

My top 5 strengths are learner, intellection, achiever, developer, and belief. As a leader I can be a catalyst for change (learner), think through a process thoroughly (intellection), stay motivated to achieve goals (achiever), value the potential and input of others (developer), and share my passion for the project at hand (belief). I am excited to take on this challenge and passionate about promoting the Keep a Breast App to raise awareness and empower women to make breast self-checks a part of their lives. I want Faith (futuristic) on my team to help us come up with a vision for how we will promote the Keep a Breast App. Andrew (activator) may compliment Faith well and help to energize the plans and ideas Faith has and put those visions into motion. Fernando (focus) will help everyone stay on track. Pablo (positivity) will help everyone continue to move forward and energize the group when obstacles arise. Finally, it would be great to have William (woo) on the team because he would help to engage the largest number of people and network to build awareness about the Keep a Breast App among a large group of people.
