The gene is an "irreducible unit-the basic organizational unit of a larger whole." They can be recombined to make endless possibilities. Genetics caused the author's cousin to have schizophrenia. Genetic mutations caused the X-Men to have super powers. Such a tiny unit of biological information holds the power to cause many things.
