How did this help our knowledge of the book "The Raisin in the Sun."

This helped us because we knew that in the world during this time such as the equality of the black men and black society was slowly getting better. This also helps us see how much certain people cared about their heritage and wanted to make it better for everyone just like Beneatha did. Also it helps us because on page 103 it says "Well-- I always thinks like Booker T. Washington said that time-- 'Education has spoiled many a good plow hand' " and then later on Johnson says "Well -- he was one of our great men." In these quotes knowing back ground information about Washington helps us better understand this because we know why Johnson would have brought him up in a conversation about Walter being a servant while driving people around. Since he was a former slave and now was trying to get the slavery to end and have more equality it made since.
