At the end of the book, Aelin, Chaol, and Dorian confront the King about the questionable things he has been doing to win the war against Terrasen, (Aelin being the queen of Terrasen). They battle against him which results in Chaol getting paralyzed. Dorian Kills the king with his magic and Aelin sets the Castle and town on fire and holds the people captive.****

"My name is Aelin Ashryver Galathynius" She said. "And I am the queen of Terrasen.Your King is dead, your castle is destroyed, and until your prince is ready, this city is mine."

Absolute silence.

"If you cause trouble, if you loot, I will find you, and I will burn you to ash."

She lifted a hand, and flames danced along her fingertips.

"I killed your king. His empire is over. So, I suggest you act like reasonable, intelligent people. If anyone has a problem, they can take it up with my court." She motioned behind her. Rowan, Aedion, and Lysandra- Bloodied, Battered, filthy, grinned like hellions.

"Or," Aelin said, flames winking out in her hand, "You can take it up with me."**** Page 585-586

I chose this quote because it is right after Aelin tells the world who she is and why she has come. To rid the world of the evil that destroyed her home.

"I hope the dark god finds a special place for you in his realm," she said, a shiver went down Rowans spine at the midnight caress in her tone.

She extended a hand to Aedion. "Give me your sword." Aedion drew the sword of Orynth and handed it over to her. Aelin gazed down at the blade. When she raised her head there was only icy determination in those remarkable eyes.

A queen exacting justice.

Then she lifted her fathers sword and severed Arobynn's head from his body. It rolled to the side with a vulgar thud, and she smiled grimly.

"Just to make sure," was all she said. Page 388

I chose this quote because it gives us a glimps of what Aelin's life was like when she went by the name Celeana, and her powers and identity were hidden.

Aelin/Celeana is one of the best characters I have seen in all the books I have read. I love how we really get to grow up with her as we learn about her many different identities and skills *** I really didn't see it coming that she was the queen of Terrasen, Heir of Mala Fire-bringer, AND the descendant of the Fae King Brannon!*** I think its awesome how even in the first and second books she is setting up what will eventually help her win the war against Erawan, like using Ansel's name when she was fighting Valg soldiers in the Pits, and setting up alliences with the Silent Assassins in the desert. (I have read the whole series.) Also, her and Rowan together are so cute! All in all, the plot in Queen of Shadows is very good, I couldn't put it down! Other than Heir of Fire when she first gets her fire-bringing abilities, I like this one the best!****

In this book, the main character Aelin, has a good and evil side. In both my quotes, you see the evil side, "The queen exacting justice," and the Assassin part of her life. In this book, evil and good rage a war inside her, where she faces many difficulties on her road to become queen. She must survive the king on the throne who is bent on killing her, she must find allies from her travels working for the Assassin's Guild, and she cannot fail. In the book, she is tempted to use her unique fire-bringing skills for evil, to destroy what has infitrated her world. But she is always reminded of her broken kingdom in need of hope, and goodness in a dark, broken world. It reminds me of this Bible verse: "...In this world you will have troubles. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Dorians father, the King of Adarlan who is demon possessed, sits on his throne while Aelin, Chaol, and Dorian get ready to face him in the epic battle at the end which ends up with the glass castle shattered and the kingdom in Aelin's hands (also see: quote 1)***
