She stood out to me a lot in this chapter because all of the sudden shes yeling at Daniel and Rosa to think better than they are. I didn't see an obvious flashback but I thought of a possible flashback, When Erika gave the speech i was thinking about how cheery Erika was before this series of events and where all that happiness went, It's very clear that this has completely changed her attitude. Rosa got fired temporarily for going on a protest about the soup kitchen in their factory but got rehired because everybody started protesting the same thing in that factory and wouldn't stop until Rosa got rehired.I believe the conflict was at the end of the chapter when they entered the cellar and were supposed to hide there because they believed there parents were going to Auschwitz, One of the death camps. The plot of chapter 8 was about Rosa and her crew were upset about the food that was being served to them. Rosa  later began to  form a strike against the food service. (Plot and conflict)  
Erika was a big factor in this chapter. As Erika being known as a shy and quiet character from past chapters, she has really stood out in this chapter.  As noticed on page 70, it seems that Erika's character has developed into being brave and not so shy and timid to express her thoughts about disagreeing towards Rosa and Daniel. While Erika proving a point of not giving up hope.(characterization)

The ringleaders, which included Rosa, were fired which created conflict among the people in the ghetto.  This was a problem because if somebody didn't have a job, they would be one of the first ones in the transport trucks. The only reason that he had heard of this was because of how news traveled faster than lice in the ghetto.  It was not of radios or television screens, it was by word of mouth. Daniel then later found out that Erika, the shy quiet one, was the one who organized the whole rebellion. After Daniel had asked Erika, she admitted to it and said that she even gave a little speech. The other thing is when she complained about it she got fired but then a day or 2 went by and they hired her back because she complained to the director of the factory and the manager hired her back because she got ahold of the kitchen workers to provided some better food. One of the most inspiring and important parts of chapter 8 for me would be when Daniel said, " If I had the  power of God, I would wipe the whole human race off the face of the Earth. It' s a complete failure. Look around us, a race of Monsters." Rosa had agreed with him, and then Erika yelled at Daniel, saying that everyone has some good and bad in them, and how they were acting like the Jews. She was explaining how no body was perfect, and it touched Daniel and Rosa so much that they cried on her shoulder. The last sentence of the chapter says, "Timid, silent Erika, who turned out to be the bravest, most eloquent of us all."   Wow, I wrote a lot. . .

Erika has growth a lot from that shy little girl to a girl who can now speak her mind. This takes place in the middle of world war 2 when the jewish were being tortured. The conflict is how the jewish are still being tortured in the getto but now there going to deport more jewish people that cant work anymore and Daniels mother and sister are both sick and cant work so are most likely going to be deported. Then Erika and Rosa worked at a sewing factory and didn't want to eat the soup because it was bad and didn't have meat, potatoes from where Daniel worked. Then Rosa got fired because she and people complained. Erika helped her get her job back by making the workers go on strike until they got the right food for the people.

Many other workers join Rosa and soon enough, she is fired. Without a job, you would be the first selected for a transport. The workers at the metal works factory decided to have a meeting. Daniel decided that they should bring their soup over to the girls at the sewing factory. After eating the soup, they went on a hunger strike. They said they would not eat ubtil they were rehired. Erika's character changed in this chapter and we see her different. Rosa was also rehired. This factory does not sound like a good place to work because of the quality of the food. The
