We observe children so that we can better understand their behaviour, character, personality and more about how we can further use our observation to plan our lessons and classroom setup to maximize their learning potential. Without observation, we won't be able to try to understand the children about their behaviour and actions. Just like the iceberg, we cannot gauge a child based on what we saw from an incident or scenario. Only through time and observation then can we really try to understand and further help the child's development.

Some tools that we can use to observe children's behaviour would be checklists, observations through running or anecdotal records, time/ event/ duration sampling and more. We can come up with different activities or tasks for the children to do so we can observe the different behaviours and occurence depending on the type of outcome we are looking for.
