Proprietary is basically land grants from the British government. Royal is a colony ruled or administered by officials appointed by and responsible to the reigning sovereign of the parent state. Self-Governing was a colony with an elected government in which elected rulers were able to make most decisions without referring to the colonial power with nominal control of the colony.</div>]]></description>

British win and tax the colonies to repay massive war debts&nbsp;<br>The Stamp Act : 1765 parliament passed the Stamp Act a tax on paper goods. Outraged colonist boycott British goods claiming parliament had no right to tax them without their consent.&nbsp;<br>The Boston Massacre : March 5,1770, British soldiers in Boston are surrounded by an angry crowd of colonists and the soldiers open fire killing 4 and fatally wounding 2 colonists. The colonist call the even the Boston massacre and the killing lead to the withdrawal of British troops from Boston.&nbsp;<br>The Boston Tea Party : The British pass the Townsend Acts taxing all paper glass lead and tea. They send forces to the colonies to enforce the new taxes but shortly repeal all but the tea tax. Insulted by the tea tax a small band of patriots disguised as Native Americans board English ships in Boston Harbor and dumb 342 chest of tea overboard.&nbsp;<br>The intolerable Acts : a response to the Boston tea party British pass a number of punitive measures in the spring of 1774. Boston Harbor is closed. The colonists call for a Continental Congress’s in 1774. The repeal of the Intolerable Acts would be the colonists’ primary demand until independence.</div>]]></description>
