The Golden Slipper follows a young girl with an old dad and her stepsister as well as her evil stepmother. The young girl is asked to do a number of chores for the old lady as her 'slave'. She acquires magical help from a heifer who accomplishes her impossible tasks for her. The heifer introduces her to a magical willow tree who helps her have a beautiful dress so she can go to church like her stepmother and sister. While she is there for a second time she looses one of her golden shoes. By now the Tasar has fallen in love with her and demands his Jester take the shoe and finds whos is belongs to who. Whoever it fits that is who he will marry. Of course the young girl tries it on and it fits, so they live happily ever after.

Reflections of Culture

1.) The Prince is referred to as a Tsarevich. Tsarevich is a Russian word for prince. This is reflects the culture because it is using its own language in the writing.

2.) At the end of the story is tells us they ate wheat bread which is another reference to the Ukrainian culture, because it is considered sacred. It very commonly eaten and baked in Ukraine.

Moral of The Story

One theme shown here is the victory of kindness. Throughout the story the young girl is shown to be kind and hardworking, while the evil stepmother and daughter both make the girl do there work for them while they just sit there. This really shows in the end because the stepmother and stepdaughter are left jealous of the girl who married the Tsarevich.

1.) The Grimm version has an gruesome ending toward the stepsister but the Ukriane version we don't know what happens to them.

2.) In the Grimm version there are two stepsisters while in the Ukriane version there is only one and we know little information about her.
