Power can be used for good or bad, Prospero used his power/magic for good and bad by imprisoning people but used it for good to protect him and his child.
The more Knowledge you gain over the years the more power you will have.
Prospero has the most accurate perspective because he was the Duke and he has experienced many different experiences like betrayal. Without perspective, knowledge can be misinterpreted and meaningless.

Power

Power can be good or bad, it depends on your perspective of the world. Most villains in any Disney movie have magic or power and they use their power for evil because of their perspective on the world and other people. This theme is present in the play when Ariel "boarded the King’s ship; now on the beak, Now in the waist, the deck, in every cabin, [he ]flamed amazement"(Shakespeare 1.2.232-234). Ariel used his magic for evil to bring down their ship in flames under Prospero's command because Prospero is his master.

Knowledge

The more knowledge you gain over the years the more power you will have. In The Tempest, there is the king and there is the Boatswain, when their boat sinks the lower-class Boatswain has the power and the King does not because the Boatswain is the only one who knows how to survive in this situation. The Boatswain shows he can sail when he says "Take in the topsail. Tend to th’ Master’s whistle.—Blow till thou burst thy wind if room enough!"(Shakespeare 1.1.6-8). The Boatswain is yelling out commands to try to survive and non of the King's money or power can save him it is the Boatswain's knowledge.

Act 2

Perspective:

Perspective influences the way we act and can impact our beliefs. When Caliban is doing his chores he thinks Prospero sends a spirit to torment him but it is just Trinculo seeking shelter.

"Here comes a spirit of his, and to torment me For bringing wood in slowly. I’ll fall flat. Perchance he will not mind me"(Shakespeare 2.2.15-17).

Act 3

Power can be used for good and evil but in Act 3 Prosper uses his power for evil and says to himself that he has manipulated his enemies and Ferdinand being in control of his situation.

It shows that he is in control of the whole situation when Prospero says, "And these mine enemies are all knit up In their distractions. They now are in my power; And in these fits, I leave them while I visit Young Ferdinand, whom they suppose is drowned, And his and mine loved darling"(Shakespeare 3.3.109-113).

John Proctor

John Proctor had an affair with Abigail and once Elizabeth found out about this she fired Abigail and John cannot be in love with her anymore. He even says in the script that he would rather "cut off [his] hand before [he'll] ever reach for [her] again".

Abigail Williams

Abigail is in love with John Proctor but she resents his wife so she tries everything she can to get rid of her.

Reverend Samuel Parris

Elizabeth found out about the affair and fired Abigail and started spreading rumors about Abigail. In the script, it states, "She is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling woman and you bend to her!"

Setting

Salem is a very religious community where witchery and association with the devil or witchery were frowned upon and this made accusations of witchcraft spread like wildfire.

Tituba
