I work at a school and I strive to do at least one good task for my coworkers, students, and the community that I work for because I want to do good in this world. If we all work together to accomplish good deeds every day then we can work together to transform the world into a better place. It doesn’t take very much to accomplish one good deed per day because it can be as simple as smiling at someone at school or greeting them. As an educator, our ideas and our words have the power to change students' lives and all those that work around us. When I was a classroom teacher, I would always tell my students that they were all capable of being learners and although they may not fully understand a concept today they would eventually understand it. The power of my words and the idea that I believed in them was powerful. I worked hard with my students to ensure that they were successful in learning math. This is once again a mindset that I would try to instill in my students and it mirrors the idea of a growth mindset. I think that when we set our minds to accomplishing a task and we try hard we can accomplish the task. There have been moments in my life where I feel like I am not able to accomplish something and when I finally reach the finish line, I feel a sense of accomplishment. When I speak with students now that I am out of the classroom, I encourage them to pursue their dreams when they move on to high school and beyond. When students come to talk to me about the obstacles that they are facing I always let them know that I am here for them and that I believe in them. I work with many students that need extra support and English learners, so they need someone to be there cheering them on. I always let the students know that I believe in them and these words of encouragement are sometimes the push that they need to keep going. I believe that every act of kindness, whether it is a small act or a large act, is never wasted because someone will be happy in the end. I also believe that acts of kindness should be done out of the kindness of the person’s heart and not because they want to brag about it. We should do an act of kindness out of humility and because we truly wish to complete the deed for the person or community.
