The relationships between skill, ability and technique determine one's ability to accomplish a task efficiently in an athletic setting. One's ability is perhaps the most vital, as ability is what a person "begins with", determining one's ability to complete a task using only preexisting traits. Skill, on the contrary, is what one develops through rehearsal and completion of tasks. Technique is effectively a description of the method used when developing or implementing a skill. In short, a person's technique is what determines how they use skill and ability to accomplish an athletic task.

Discuss the relationship between Skill, Ability and Technique – All of these attributes are necessary for an athletic endeavor. The problem with these specific terms is that most people think they are synonyms, interchangeable, but they’re not. Ability refers more to a talent, something that comes naturally in one particular area or another. Skill, on the other hand can be developed and improved over time with practice and an objective in mind. Technique is less difficult to distinguish than ability and skill. Technique is generally thought of as the way of doing something.

Skill is something that is learned through repeated practice. When developing a skill, people will often set goals that they try to achieve through repetition and coaching. Ability is a talent that comes naturally to a person. Some athletes are naturally better at certain sports than others, irrelevant of the amount of time put into practicing the sport. Technique is the method in which you preform certain skills in a sport. For an athlete to be successful, they have to use skill, ability, and technique together. Some people may be naturally athletically gifted, but they need to develop skill in order to reach their maximum potential. In addition to skill and ability, athletes should work on developing proper technique so they learn the most efficient way to preform their selected sports skill.

Skill ability and technique are all important for an altheltes performance. Ability is referring to what this person “starts with” compared to skill, ability is what the person natural talent is. Skill comes into play when referring to someone who has put in the work to practice for a sport, such as a basketball player who has played for 5 years compared to one who has played 5 months, the first one would have more skill. Technique is the combination of ability and skill to maximize one’s performance within the sport itself.

they all play a role into each other in order for a certain individual to perform. Skill is kind of the larger topic because skill is built up of ability and technique. Skill is something someone can acquire from practice and repetitions. Ability is just raw talent. Technique would be the form of completing a task and how it is done.
