This piece resonated with me because it took something that was so artistically and culturally beautiful and extended that beauty to resisting the dominant power. These women and children were using their cultural expression to say, we will be who we are and you can't stop us. I engage in cultural resistance by creating space in my life and my family's life for those who are marginalized. It also shows how America is led by racism and violence. This song resonates with me because every time I listen to it I am reminded of the injustice us minorities go through and how we are perceived in the US. Childish Gambino contrasts popular culture's perception of black experience and its often brutal reality by juxtaposing happy, carefree choruses and dark, aggressive verses. A sculpture made by JudyBaca called "Raspado", that talks about the "Bracero Wars" during 1954-1964. The U.S. made a program for Mexican that worked in the U.S. that would have given them a living wage and benifits. Of course the program didn't go as planned and left many Mexicans with low wages, abuse and unfair treatment. This affected many that worked in farms like in Arizona. This piece by Judy Baca represents the immigration issues and how mexican descent living in the United States are misrepresented. When I look at this piece, I obviously noticed the utensils you use to make a raspado, but the art around the vendor cart shows a time not long, where we were treated badly and sometimes not even like we were even a person. But because they stood up and decided to do something about the unfair pay and treatment. In this particular song, they use their music as a way to speak about how we the Hispanics are more American than the Anglos; considering that the USA took a lot of land from us and how it's not fair that we are the ones that should be discriminated against.

"I did not cross the border,
The border crossed me.
America was born free, man divided it."

I resonate with this song because I do believe it's true and unfair that America could have taken lands such as Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah

Gradually, Mexican Americans joined the scene as well. 
Its popularity stemmed from young people wanting to go against drab slum life through the colorful costume that identified them as members of their own society. 
Unfortunately, patriotic White Americans took this declaration the wrong way and thought it disrespectful for them to wear such clothing that wasted so much material during a time like WWII. This led to the Zoot Suit Riots where anyone who wore these outfits was subjected to punches and fights and anything in-between. 
Still, Chicanos continued to wear these suits to defy the Anglo's rules. 
I resonate with this because growing up I was given weird looks and othered when wearing anything that resembled my traditional clothing, or even anything that the general population wore. I learned that I should not care what they think and just wear what I want as an act of defiance.

When i look at that painting i notice its just a couple of kids just hanging outside and having fun with no conflict happening to them while the "white people " other race giving them problems while they are just trying to live their life like anybody else .

JR expected that the picnic would have been brought down, he thought it was "forbidden". instead some federal us agents joined the pinic sharing a cup of tea with the other side of the border.
