Immigration is the movement from one's home country into a foreign country.
Image Connection: This photo represents immigration due to the fact that only people that have the 'keys' will be able to immigrate into the country. This is mostly more specific to the United States because there are certain requirements to be able to immigrate to the United States, in which these requirements can pose as the 'keys' to the country & the country posing at the lock. Although, if you do not have the 'key' then you cannot unlock it, in which it also applies to outsiders that have no 'key' then they will not be able to unlock or immigrate into the country. In conclusion, only people that have the 'keys' can unlock it, whilst people that don't have the keys, it stays locked to. This is why a lock represents immigration because it is seen as hard to get in without certain requirements to immigrate.

This process might impact all these groups of immigrants because it makes it hard for them to naturalize into the country. Even though they are permitted into the country, through a green card, it’s an extremely tedious process to get your U.S. citizenship. This long process affects these families because it’s harder for them to live in the United States with just a green card compared to a U.S. citizenship that makes it tremendously easier & you are granted more rights.
Image Connection: The image below depicts the foreign citizens naturalizing as U.S Citizens. This is an important step in the naturalization process, and is very significant to the overall topic of immigration.

Due to the difficult experience that you have to go through in order to become a citizen, Esperanza and Estevan take the easier way to work in the U.S by using Mattie. Mattie is someone who you can assume doesn't really care about all of the complicated legal immigration. She sees a pair of hands, and sees them how they are, a person. Mattie allows Estevan and Esperanza to stay because she sees them as people, not as aliens.
