The decisions we made were based off of future prowess. If someone was old or likely to pass on a genetic defect, such as the grandfather of 15, or the newlyweds, they were eliminated. The pregnant woman was likely to lose her child, so she would become a plain woman, not as deserving as 15 year old twins or a veteran nurse. In society, ethical decisions are made for worth, not emotion. Whichever candidate for the heart transplant would use it to the fullest was the right candidate. Therefore, the twins, the veteran nurse, and the elementary school teacher were the most popular to save throughout the class. The twins have a future that may lead to great things, the veteran nurse will save more lives and the elementary school teacher will impact the lives of the future generation. These are the most ethical choices.

Ethics are fundamental in creating a fair world for people to live in, and promoting social cohesion. When we can trust others to act ethically and fairly, a sense of mutual trust and faith is built up that is conducive to increased social harmony. This harmony is the foundation of cohesive and well-ordered societies. Respect for ethics promotes outcomes that are as beneficial as possible for everyone involved. When we can have trust that those around us are striving to act in ways that will have benefits to our lives and not detriments, we can therefore build stronger relationships and increase the moral authority of institutions.

If there was no ethics, there would simply be anarchy because people would do whatever they wanted. What is stopping someone from committing mass murder if they don't have any moral code? Thus, ethics is important as a check against the selfish and reckless nature of humans.

Ethics dictates whether or not the actions committed by someone is morally just. Ethics is an important factor in human behavior because this guides us along our decisions by refreshing our mind on what is expected and likely to be accepted by society. Ethics creates barriers between what is considered right and wrong. Regulations are usually in place to prevent unethical actions. For example, human experimentation has ethical guidelines that are expected to be followed. These include not intruding on one’s privacy and obtaining informed consent. The role of ethics is to prevents us from conducting experiments that violate human and animal rights. It also serves as a foundation of our decisions.

Without such morals, there would be no regulations that would prevent people from doing cruel and inhumane things. However there are times at which when ethics can be misconstrued by each individual person depending on the situation, in these cases they would be considered as moral dilemmas in which it is hard to choose a "better" or "just" choice. But in most cases ethics is what guides people into choosing a better option for the well being of others.

This creates a system where everyone knows what is right and wrong, and what is appropriate and inappropriate.

Ethics establish a set of guidelines for moral responsibility and practicality. Without these guidelines, the path driven by human instinct and the path driven by moral obligations will not frequently overlap. Though ambiguous, these rules are implicit in every decision we make as humans. The goal of ethics is to strike a balance between logic and emotion so that empathy is not lost but practical decisions are still made. We saw this today when forced with a hypothetical but very difficult decision.

Ethics are a moral compass that guide our actions and subconsciously tell us what is right and wrong to do. Ethics shape our laws, standards, manners, and every day interactions. Ethics are variable however; different people behave differently and have different values as a result of the different ethics they were taught. Ethics can vary between cultures, countries, and even generations. Almost all of society is shaped around ethics. Ethics are what we use to justify what is right and what is wrong, they are what we use to rationalize actions, or make tough decisions. Governments are formed primarily based off of the common ethics that each society has.

The role of ethics in society is that it gives the people in our community the moral guidelines to follow which helps them to determine the right or wrong in a particular situation. To make an important decision in life or death events, ethics provide us basic standards and guidelines to follow and make the "correct" or moral and sensible choice for the greater good of all. For example, many of us chose to save the 15 year old twins because they are so young and giving them the hearts may help them live a long full-filling life and we used that reasoning to show why it was ethical to give the twins the hearts. However, comparing it to the newly married couple who both need heart transplants, majority of us decided not to save them. As cruel as it sounds it is seemed as the most feasible option because it seems like their heart problems are genetically linked so if they have a offspring, the baby may also have a heart problem and that arises more issues.

When everyone has a set of rules that they can agree on, they can focus on things beyond the threat of those who don't follow said rules. The problem is that everybody's set of rules is slightly different; these differences cause disagreements, and disagreements slow progress. It's worth noting this isn't necessarily a bad thing; having more than one perspective is never bad.

Ethics play an important role in society because they bring up the concept of morality to an otherwise logical but insensitive world. If people were to let logistics solely dictate their decisions, controversy probably wouldn't be as widespread. However, human beings just aren't that simple. Humans are inherently creatures of compassion, and it is this compassion that assists us in choosing to set our own perspectives on certain topics. In this way, ethics can not only remind us of who we are and what we stand for in society, but it can also help us to better understand each other.

Ethics define your character and the actions that you choose to follow through with based on your idea of what is right and what is wrong. This code helps foster relationships between a person and the rest of the people in the society that they live in. Without it, society will be in disorder because it will be more difficult to direct human behavior. This difficulty will make it harder for relationships to be formed among others because it will be hard to trust that someone has your best interest at heart. People may have different ideas of what is right and what is wrong based on their emotions, values, and other aspects that influence their thinking, as seen in today’s activity. We were placed in a scenario where we had to make decisions on what would be morally right or wrong, and our decisions differed because our judgments are not the same. Even those who picked the same people to give the heart transplant to may have had different reasons for doing so.

Ethics essentially acts as a rule book of morals that contains the do's and don'ts that are necessary to follow in order for a society or even a person on a microscopic scale to consider themselves "good". By implementing ethics into the laws of a society, the society theoretically will act in a way that causes the most happiness for the most people and be able to outline what a moral paragon of a citizen would act like. A society without ethics is comparable to a person without a conscience, which is, in essence, a psychopath. An amoral society often acts as with parasitic nature and often causes immeasurable amounts of pain for countless people.

In a society, ethics provide the moral framework that dictates how we justify our actions. Without ethics, people are naturally going to make choices and follow through with actions that would benefit themselves the most, since we have no moral obligation to help other people. In this ethic-less world, selfishness would eventually transform society into a dystopia filled with conflict. However, with ethics, people are held to a certain standard that expects them to keep the wellbeing of others in mind. By being conscious of the environment around us, we are able to use ethics to decide what the "right" or "wrong" thing to do is.

In general, ethics serve as a code to the everyday person. This code rationalizes everything from decision-making to actions to how the person operates on a daily basis. On a much larger scale, ethics act as a framework for societal standards and what is expected of each individual in a larger group of people while consequently holding to their own. In more general terms, although individual ethics may differ, it plays a much larger role in society because it puts into play a set of norms that a majority of the population follow. With ethics, the outliers in the social norms still conform to the standards of society because not following what the majority of the population does is going against the societal code of ethics. People need a uniform code to follow in order to maintain social balance and know how to act on a day to day basis.

Ethics serves as moral principles that help guide decisions throughout life. They are an essential part of society since they keep us from "playing God" and establish differences between "good" and "bad" (although these are all relative terms). All of society has also been formed by ethics, whether through religious or natural rights. Ethics is also important as it allows us to debate on all types of progress, instead of just accepting everything because someone said so.

The role of ethics in society is too establish the moral boundaries of what is considered “right” or “wrong”. In other words, are the actions taking place justified? Ethics establishes a balance in human behavior between what is socially acceptable and what they want. This varies depending on the culture and location of where you are. This is why certain practices are legal in some states and illegal in others. A common example is animal experimentation, which is still controversial, however, it creates a debate on what is morally acceptable, similarly to the actions committed by humans. Ethical laws are meant to keep individuals in check and make rational decisions.

Ethics are the moral guidelines that guide society. I'd say they are comparable to Locke's natural rights in that every layman is born with them and although everyone might have a different perception of what they are, everyone still has moral guidelines to live their lives. Ethics play a very important role in society, because they act as the unbiased factor in a biased world. Similar to how government is there as a unbiased party, ethics are there in society as an unbiased party

Ethics stand as morals that each individual lives by. These morals help a person decide whether decisions they make throughout their lives are "good" or "bad". Ethics are specifically subjective to each person and can be built from experiences throughout ones life. In a community, however, many follow a very similar (simple) guideline which works along with the law to prevent chaos. For example, most people find it ethically wrong to kill someone. So these laws are built and supported by the general ethical standard of society. And therefore ethics is important to maintain order and a sense of "right" or "wrong".

Ethics ultimately establishes a set of moral guidelines that people should follow in order to have a more just society. At the most basic level, our morality drives the reason behind our most fundamental laws and holds society together. As society advances, we need ethics to make sure that our rights do not get violated. At times this can be complicated by the fact that not everyone agrees on what is fair. That is why ethics is always an evolving discussion and why we need to approach it with an open mind.

The role of ethics in today’s society is one of aid to our laws and regulations. Ethics allows us to decide whether or not something is wrong not only in the eyes of our judicial system but also in our overall society. While ethics and laws used to be heavily connected, today’s laws seem to stray away from ethics requiring a re-introduction of ethics into our lives.

Ethics are essentially the unspoken fabric of society; they are what truly govern society and why our laws and politics are what they are. Ethics are moral guidelines which may differ from person to person, but with core principles tended to be shared by the greater population. For example, the majority of us would think that it is unethical to fire someone based off of their gender or race, yet not all people share this ethical belief. Someone's personal ethics are influenced by the environment they grew up in and who they surround themselves with, which explains why around the word we see such varying ethical dilemmas. Our judicial system is also based on ethics, and, in general, based on the ethics deemed "right" (or more ethical) by the greater population. The interesting thing about ethics is that they tend to be the broadly accepted baseline for what's "right and wrong", rather than morals which tend to describe more personal and subjective principles.

Ethics in society serves to establish a difference between right and wrong. Though the lines between the two can be blurry in different situations, different people have different opinions on what they consider is morally correct or incorrect. This of course leads to many discussions/debates regarding the way our society functions because sometimes, what may be morally correct may not be the most beneficial choice in terms of growth/productivity. Ethics exists to find that balance and help us dictate what decisions would be best for everybody.

Today, ethics are used as guidelines to shape how our society should behave. By human nature, we are all selfish creatures who wish to always have it our way but the unspoken rules of etiquette regulate these impulses. For example, imagine an everyday scenario when you are riding the train during rush hour and every commuter is dying to go home. If someone was to collapse of a heart attack and the whole train was delayed, at the news of this calamity, the passengers would express their compassion for the individual. Even if they are angered by this sudden occurrence that is preventing them from resting after a long day of work, most passengers will not dare to express this feeling of exasperation towards the patient because it is not morally righteous for them to blame this person who a) did not plan for this to happen and b) is in a more unfortunate state than themselves.

Our society is essentially founded upon the idea of ethics. The world we have created for ourselves, complete with various different laws and cultural morals, is primarily based off of the concept of what is right and what is wrong. Thus, a society without ethics would be one without order, as no guidelines would be set to determine humanity’s actions. The idea of progress within a civilization is also related to ethics; the world is constantly looking to improve itself, and constant political action works to make the world a more ethical and desirable place to live.
