The Four Noble Truths

The Four Truths are the four truths of life understood by Sakyamuni: suffering, collection, annihilation and Tao. The Four Truths tell us that the essence of life is suffering, the reasons for suffering, the methods to eliminate suffering and the ultimate goal of achieving Nirvana. The reason why I think this concept is so important is that it underlies the teachings of Buddhism, and it's safe to say that all of the important philosophical thinking of Buddhism has to do with the Four Truths, in order to justify it in one way or another. I used to be more inclined to avoid suffering myself, but I always ended up putting more pressure on myself. Therefore, if I try to escape from suffering or uncomfortable feelings or want them to disappear as soon as possible, it is to resist suffering, fight with suffering, without learning its cause and adapting medicine to the disease. It is not only unconsciously increasing the power of suffering, but also not knowing the way to put out suffering.I was very resistant when it came to tests, but I found that the more resistant and fearful I was, the lower my grades got. When I put my mind at ease to face the exam, I feel relaxed and easy. So now in my daily life, when a feeling of suffering or discomfort arises, instead of resisting it, I will kindly remind myself, What I am experiencing is the noble truth of suffering. With this reminder, one knows that now is the time to learn from suffering, not to chase it away or fight it as quickly as possible.

Taoism Wu Wei

Hey future self! I'm going to write your first letter now.
Now I am a student in Grade 11. Due to the epidemic, I stay up late to attend classes every day, and I am very anxious.
I was full of anticipation during the summer vacation, always thinking about what I was going to do in the 11th grade. I had a to-do list set up for myself before I even started learning. But the reality is that I did nothing, even some decadent. I didn't join a club. I didn't participate in the activity either. What I do most is to stay at home and do my homework to make up for the lessons. But I also learned something useful in my religion class. I know you know a lot about Taoism, but it seems that you have never used the concept of Taoism in real life? I recommend one to you, the concept of doing nothing is really good, it has helped me a lot. I am taking part in a competition now, and I was originally selected as the leader. However, because one of the boys' parents asked the teacher privately, the teacher gave the leader position to the boy. I felt so aggrieved that I even wanted to quit the group. But I thought of the concept of doing nothing, and I decided to let nature take its course and do my job well, and let the Tao take care of the rest. In the end, because the boy never completed his tasks, I became leader again and got my position back. As you enter the society in the future, you will certainly face more unfairness and anxiety. Think about me today, do your own thing well, let nature take its course, don't be anxious, and opportunities will come naturally. Maybe you can also try Buddhist meditation, it is really effective, the morning meditation effect is better!

Hey 13-year-old me, as a person about to become an adult, I want to share some thoughts with you now.
I know you're a very insecure introvert, and I know you're scared.
I remember now you should just start to want to study abroad, do not hesitate, to go to the United States for high school is a very correct choice. Because you can experience a good learning atmosphere here, most of the people I know are very friendly and tolerant. Above all, don't be afraid. Remember, there is no "other". Each of us has hands and feet, a mouth and a brain, can eat, talk and do things, all have seven emotions and six sensory pleasures, so everyone is the same. Although you and others come from different countries, different regions, different races, but you all live on the earth, everyone is the same. Don't be afraid of the strangeness that cultural differences bring, and don't set yourself apart from your classmates. Even if your lives are different, we're all the same. We're all human. So don't worry about being an international student. Relax and try to fit in.

Fear, courage, and hope

This year I am very confused and very afraid. All my friends went back to China to attend international schools, but I still stayed at school. But when it comes to Internet problems and jet lag, I'm exhausted. My physical condition became worse and worse, and my mental mood became very anxious. There was a time when I wanted to cry and tremble at the thought of my email. I was afraid to check my teacher's email because I was afraid of getting a bad grade. The SAT, the AP, the TOEFL, they all put a lot of pressure on me. I felt so hopeless that I even asked my tutor if I really couldn't get into a good college. But looking back now, the two semesters are over and I seem to be able to handle them all. Now I am not so afraid of the last semester, maybe I have the courage, even though I am still confused, but I am willing to take a brave step for the future.
