         <description><![CDATA[<div>The rankings in japan are very interesting. The highest rank was the emperor, but he was a decoy. The actual ruler was the shogun. He was the supreme military commander. Next are the daimyo. They were powerful land holding samurai. samurai warriors are below  them. the peasants and the artisans followed. merchants are at the bottom but are slowly going up in ranking.  </div>]]></description>

Ieyasu defeated his enemies in the Battle of Sekigahara in the 1600s.<br>By winning this battle he earned the loyalty of the daimyo, and three years later became the ruler/shogun of Japan. He moved the capital of Japan to a power base of his at a small fishing village called Edo, Which would later become the city of Tokyo.     </div>]]></description>
