Then, the salivary glands adds saliva to break down food even further. Then the food travels down the esophagus, into the stomach, where it is chemically broken down into chyme. After that, the food moves into the small intestine and the nutrients is absorbed. Finally, it moves through the large intestine, and the waste is eliminated. All in all, the digestive system is important to the body.
