In the novel "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli there was a part of the book that I was able to relate to something that we had talked about on our anticipation sheet. The novel states "Because she was different. Different. We had no one to compare her to, no one to measure her against. She was unknown territory. Unsafe"(Spinelli 26). This evidence proves the point that almost everyone at school has to fit in. All the kids but Stargirl were scared to stick out. But she wasn't because she knew that it's ok to be different. Stargirl not wanted to fit in makes her unsafe and unknown according to the other kids in her grade. This is not a good thing because just because someone is different doesn't make them unsafe. The only thing that Stargirl does that makes them think shes unsafe is she is not like anyone else she is not predictable. Overall I agree with Stargirl that she should be herself and I think that it should be a normal custom to be and act yourself no matter where you are.

So far I really like the book "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli. The book touches on many different subjects and makes it an interesting read. One of my annotations I could touch upon most is when Hillari Kimble took Stargirl's pet rat and threw the rat down in the stairwell ultimately killing it. I believe this is a major event because it shows that just because Stargirl is different and tries to be nice she is tormented for it. Throughout the book so far we can see she loves her pet rats a lot and she truly cares for them. So by Hillari killing the poor rat she is trying to torment and hurt Stargirl just because she is different.

Week 2 padlet

On page 91 of the book "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli I annotated about how Stargirl brings Leo to an "Enchanted" place and tries to show him how to become nothing. At first Leo was skeptical because all this "Enchanted" place was, was a place that had nothing special about it and looked just like any other clearing in Arizona. But no matter how Leo felt he still stayed with Stargirl and closed his eyes with her and did as she asked. I annoyed this because I feel it is a major step into their friendship and possibly a relationship between the two of them. I saw how Stargirl wants him to feel one with the universe and tries to show him how to do this. It's almost like she wants him to find inner peace. I feel as though this is a major turn for Stargirl and Leo and something good may come out of this. In the book a few pages later it is seen how Leo is consulting Archie and how he is making a decision to not care about what other people think about him and Stargirl and how he only wants to be with her. I believe this is the start of it being Stargirl and Leo being together through and through because Leo is even giving up his best friend to be with Stargirl despite getting the "Silent Treatment" as well from everyone at school.

At the beginning of the story "Stargirl" written by Jerry Spinelli one of the main characters, Leo receives an extremely meaningful gift. He had previously explained that he wanted to expand his collection of porcupine neckties similar to the one his uncle had given him as a kid before he moved away. However, on his fourteenth birthday, he miraculously received one, but it is out of the ordinary. The novel states, "I inspected the box, the tag, the paper. Nowhere could I find the giver's name. I asked my parents. I asked my friends. I called my uncle Pete. Everyone denied knowing anything about it" (Spinelli 2). After his friends and family had denied giving him the gift Leo ended the investigation, but I predict that the mysterious gift was given by none other than Stargirl. Stargirl, a tenth-grade girl who is extremely outgoing and rambunctious likely had given Leo the gift. She is extremely aware of her surroundings and always gives gifts to her homeroom classmates during the holidays. Not to mention, Leo holds a special place in Stargirl's heart because of the fact on Valentine's day, he was the only one who received a card from her outside of her homeroom. Hence why I can infer Stargirl is the one who had given Leo his mysterious birthday gift.

In the book "Star Girl" by Jerry Spinelli, there is a girl that is different from everyone else she does not care about social sautes and she does not act like a normal high school girl. She sings to people when it is their birthday, she always cheers for her team and the other team during basketball games. People do not seem to accept her at first because she is "weird" and "not like everyone else". But as the book keeps going people begin to warm up to her but it takes one mistake and then she is back to being "weird" and "odd". But Leo does not see the bad in her he sees that she is a very special and different girl and he admires that. But Stargirl does not want to fit in she wants to be different. I think that being different is a good thing and that being normal is boring. But some people can't accept that people can sometimes be different and that it's good to be different.

As the storyline goes on Stargirl takes Leo to the "enchanted place". A place that is special to her where she finds herself. This place is extremely special to her because she is calm and instead of standing out like usual she blends in with the world. The novel states, "I'm not outside my world anymore and i'm not really inside it either. The thing is there's no difference anymore between me and the universe. The boundary is gone. I am it and it is me. I am a stone, a cactus thorn. I am raining" (Spinelli 92). This quote stuck out to me because the way Stargirl feels at this special place is against everything she seems to stand for. Instead of being different, she is one with the world. She has a way of finding peace that no one is able to do. This quote proves my theory that Stargirl sees the world differently than others because of her deepened thoughts and mind. Whether there is a strain of grass or a large mountain Leo and the rest of the world only see its outside features. While Stargirl is able to feel the object's essence. Hence, why Leo was not able to erase himself from the world as Stargirl can, he has not reached his true meaning and purpose that Stargirl has. He does not look at the world with a positive mindset. He is not different more the less the same as the rest of the world, unlike Stargirl and her positive, and enthusiastic characteristics.

As time goes on I am learning more and more about these novels characters and their personalities. One quote that has really improved my understanding of Stargirl as a character was "While Kovac's own cheerleaders sat gaping and stricken on their bench, Stargirl knelt on the hardwood floor. She held his head in her lap while the others attended his broken leg"(Spinellli 70). Stargirl has a sweet and genuine personality. She loves to help people even when their not on her team. But another really important thing Stargirl is showing through her actions is the importance of being yourself and sicking out from the crowd. If she would have just been embarrassed he would have had no one by his side. Overall as I keep reading I try to look for quotes like this that will help me better understand the characters and their personalities.

In the book "Star Girl" by Jerry Spinelli we are introduced to Leo who has been hearing whispers about this unusual "Stargirl" throughout the day he keeps hearing murmurs but finally at lunch he catches a glimpse of her.. Stargirl. Stargirl was significantly different from everyone else with flowy skirts and ribbons in her hair. Everyone is sceptic about what to think about here because of her "loud" and "weird" personality, but eventually everyone gets used to her behaviour. Everyone find themselves looking forward to seeing Stargirl everyday. But on the other hand Hillary begins to spread a rumour that Stargirl is a faz planted by the school to keep an eye on everyone. Leo finds himself believing the rumor but eventully stops. As the book goes on Stargirls popularity begans to increase and eveyrone looks forward to seeing what she is upto everyday. The basket ball games are now a blast and people actually enjoy watching Stargirl cheer for the team. Stargirl even cheers for the opposite team sharing their happiness with them, which bugs the cheerleaders as they don't like how stargirl supports the other team. A
