The most massive movement of Greek refugees who seek asylum in Syria is recorded right after the Asia Minor disaster . A part of hundreds of thousands Greek who were expatriated from Asia Minor in the 2nd semester in 1922 and in the early 1923 resort to Asia. Furthermore in November 1919 the "Accord of matural immigration between Greece and Bulgaria" determined the way and the time of the exchange of populations. Thus during that period 30.000 Greek and 50.000 Bulgarian were moved respectively without causing any disturbance

Difference between a refugee and an immigrant

Nowadays, a weakness in identifying the difference between a refugee and an immigrant is commonly seen due to their similar treatment by the residents of the foreign country and the same ways they enter a country. However their differences are major.
First of all, the refugees are forced to leave their homeland since their stay is not possible because of the harsh conditions that strike their country, for example war. In contrast, immigrants decide to leave their home mainly because of financial reasons with a vision for a better life.
In addition, refugees tend to return to their country when the circumstances allow it. On the other hand, the immigrants don't need to stay in the country in case they feel the need to return.
Finally, the refugees don't pursue their entrance in the foreign country illegally from unguarded passages and they have the right to ask for refuge as stated by the United Nations while the immigrants are not able to get one.
