Although globalization has positive effects overall, it can affect the heritage of different areas negativley. Since globalization spreads the different cultures around, the cultures of one country can affect the culture of others around it. For example, Spanish culture has affected Filipino culture during colonial times. Our language and the way we act had been heavily influenced because of that. Majority of the Filipinos now have cultures that have been affected by the Spanish. Overall, this is not such a negative effect as globalization can also share how our culture works to around the world.

The effect of modernization to our culture may be negative as it can change the way our culture works. A good example of how it has affected Filipino culture is the act of doing "mano po". Nowadays, it is rare to see any of the younger generations do this act to elders, and has beed replaced to simply saying hi or a hug.

The efforts that are being made to maintaining cultural heritage is creating more opportunities to appreciate and more times to use culture in order for it to not die out. In my family's context, we keep up the tradition of calling our elders to come eat with us by saying "lai chia o". This simple act of calling elders to eat shows our respect for them and letting them eat first can uphold the tradition of respecting elders.

As a Xavierian I can contribute to promoting the preservation of cultural heritage by participating in the different cultural activities that I have. Since we are in a world that’s constantly changing, it would be best if we just did even a little of our culture’s acts. For me, I can do the acts of letting elders eat first, calling them to eat, and talking with them, as most chinese do.

For most people, they don't really take notice of their culture at home, or don't really know the reason why they do it. As we grow up, it is important to know what our culture is, and fins out how it can help us grow. As this photo essay ends, an important takeaways that we need to remember is that no matter what your culture is, it is always important to know more about it, and hae pride in it.

The importance of cultural heritage in identity formation is to have a sense of how to build yourself as a person. In my family, we follow the chinese tradition of eating together at least once a day. When we do this, we get to connect and catch up with each other. By having a deep sense of your culture, you are able to perceive yourself and your place in the world. Having a diverse culture can contribute to the richness of society. Without having a good understanding on your cultural heritage, you won't be able to really understan yourself.
