Definition- use energy to create boiling water to push rods and wheels. (Davidson and Stoff 383)

Advantage- The steam engine was a reliable source, so factories no longer had to build near riverbanks.

The Industrial Revolution began in Britain, where workers have spun thread in their homes for centuries. In the 1760s a new product was released called the spinning jenny, a faster process than the other. Then, Richard Arkwright invented the water frame. That changed everything. Everyone loved the new invention. However, when one of Richard Arkwright's worker's immigrated to the U.S., he brought his knowledge with him. He then produced a spinning wheel like Arkwright's, and became very successful.
