For me the book has not been very confusing, I like how R.J. Polacio made there be several different narrators because it gives you the story from different perspectives which for me makes things less confusing. One question that I asked myself as I read the book is, does Auggie think of himself as ordinary or extraordinary, because in the beginning he says that he is not an ordinary kid, but as the story goes on he starts to act like all other ordinary kids. I predict that August will stand up to his bullies in the end and be treated like an ordinary kid.

Pg. 1, Pg. 306

The biggest way that I feel I am making connections is with the Wonder movie (text-to-text). A lot of things I can predict are going to happen because that's what happened in the movie. I can also make text-to-self connections, because I know what it's like going through middle school.

All Pages

There are a lot of conclusions that I have drawn from the book. One conclusion I have drawn is that Auggies parents use most of their free time helping him because Via said that she wish she could spend more time with her mother since she's constantly at the hospital with him. I can also draw the conclusion that Amos and Henry don't like Julien anymore because they helped Auggie when he was getting bullied.

Pg. 82, Pg. 265-267

The passages that create the best visualization are the ones that are simple, but descriptive enough to understand. For example the quote, "His eyes are about an inch below where they should be on his face almost halfway down his cheeks. They slant downward at an extreme angle, almost like diagonal slits that someone cut into his face, and the left one is noticeably lower than the right one," because it isn't too complicated, but descriptive enough to visualize.

Pg. 88

The main events in the story are when Auggie goes to his first day at school, when Auggie found out that Jack wasn't his friend, when Jack punched Julien, when August get's in a fight, and the 5th grade graduation. The 'gist' of the story is there is a kid named August Pullman who has a face deformity which has made it hard to make friends. He starts to go to school for the first time. In his Journey through school he meets a lot of friends and a lot of bullies. In the end he learns a lot and gets treated finally like and ordinary kid.

Pg. 37, 76-78, 154, 265-268, 305

At the beginning of the story August is a very shy character. He doesn't like that he is different and he doesn't people to know about him and his deformity because he doesn't want to get bullied. At the end of the story he embraces his difference and begins to accept the fact that he is different and he becomes more confident and less shy with other kids.

Pg. 6, 306

I think that the theme of the story is don't judge a book by it's cover. This is because at the beginning of the story nobody was very nice to Auggie because he looked different on the outside, but then people started to get to know what he was like on the inside and began to accept him as a normal kid.

Pg. 1, 305-306

The plot of the story is a kid who has been isolated from the world coming out. The book starts with Auggie being really shy and not wanting to interact with anyone outside of his family. This then progresses to him him being able to talk to his administrators at school. Auggie meets some new friends and is comfortable talking to them. At the end of the story Auggie gets a standing ovation in front of his whole school and isn't shy. This shows that he went from a really shy kid, to being proud of himself and happy to not be isolated.

Pg. 1, 51-53, 305-306

The authors writing style is first person from different perspectives. You get to know what people are thinking in their own way so you get several different takes on the same story, this makes the story way easier to understand because you can learn the story from a bunch of different styles, so if you don't understand it from one you can understand it from one of the other ones.

All Pages

In my opinion the book was a valuable lesson in beauty and goodness because in the book there were some people who looked bad on the outside and good on the inside and vice versa. This story also taught me that everybody has flaws that we don't want people to know about and just because his is a more visible flaw doesn't mean that he is a worse person.

All Pages
