I put the Sharpie down first and put rubbing alcohol over to make it spread. I used it because I knew it would make a lighter first layer. I like the way the color spreads but I don't like how some of the sharpie lines stayed on the board. I used rubbing alcohol with sharpies technique. I still don't like the sharpie scribbles but I like the spreading of sharpie colors. So I guess the underpainting is OK. I'm proudest that I actually like the piece, because I don't like abstract art and for me to like it means a lot. I put gesso over the vibrant squeegee on the outside to tone it down. Then once it dried used sharpie and rubbing alcohol over it to continue that design. I am trying to unify it by using the same techniques throughout the entire piece. I am struggling with liking and understanding my own artwork. I like my analogous color scheme and how I've incorporated techniques throughout the entire piece. Both the paint and smearing of sharpie changes the value of the piece.
