Looking at statistics, annual average temperature over the contiguous United States has increased by 1.8°F (1.0°C) over the period from 1901 to 2016. Because of this, the US ranked 24th on climate. It is currently the second-biggest contributor to the climate crisis, after China (and yet, China is the country which pollutes the most according to statistcs).

2. Climate change also makes hurricanes are stronger, bigger, and slower; the frequency and severity of land-falling “atmospheric rivers" on the U.S. West Coast will increase; wildfires are larger, hotter, and burn longer.

3.They're doing their part in stopping climate change by urging companies to commit to stop cutting them down—a commitment known as zero-deforestation. So they actually are working hard to prevent this disaster from becoming worse.

Sources:
Eos
https://eos.org/features/how-will-climate-change-affect-the-united-states-in-decades-to-come#:~:text=Annual%20average%20temperature%20over%20the,1976%E2%80%932005)%2C%20under%20all

USCUSA
https://www.ucsusa.org/resources/each-countrys-share-co2-emissions

The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jun/04/us-ranks-24th-in-the-world-on-environmental-performance

I want to do research about New Zealand. The two reasons for my choice are:
1. Even though New Zealand is a small country, it is well-developed in economy. This country is also known for doing a good job protecting the environment, proving that it is one of few countries to have "0% of population exposed to unsafe air pollution levels" (USA Today). Therefore, I want to know how the system (governments and organisations) works to remain the top countries contributing in solving climate change.
2. However, there are still improvements that need to be made to fix "deforestation, soil erosion, and destruction of wildlife habitats" (WWF) continue to be problems. Also, New Zealand's greenhouse gas emission is increasing quickly in the recent years. Because of that, I want to investigate the mistakes and problems in the environmental policies occurring here.
Citation: Kolb, Elzy, and Samuel Stebbins. “Countries Doing the Most (and Least) to Protect the Environment.” USA Today, Gannett Satellite Information Network, 14 July 2019, www.usatoday.com/story/money/2019/07/14/climate-change-countries-doing-most-least-to-protect-environment/39534413/.

The needed resources for these 1 billion people is demanding. Cars are needed, food are essential. “Most Chinese-financed, coal-fired power plants built overseas use low-efficiency, subcritical coal technology, which produces some of the highest emissions of any form of power generation.” (The National Interest quoted). Their growing economy also plays a role in the destruction of the environment along with such a larger amount of people. The air quality in certain cities are so low people are forced to wear masks for their own safety.
Here are their solutions:
China has taken steps to discontinue coal-fired power plants, reduce overall emission levels and cut particulate-matter emission rates. Huge progress has been made on air quality, and there are now fewer smog days in China’s largest cities.

China needs an estimated additional RMB 40.3 trillion ($6.4 trillion) to RMB 123.4 trillion ($19.4 trillion) to finance the transition to a greener economy. It has started collecting an environment tax to help fund its environmental policies, and is also trying to attract more green investment.
