The prop of a doll will be used and I will select a dancer to be childlike and unaware of whats going on, upsetting those around them as they see the doll. During my research and starting process, I really struggled to select an idea, and also had the idea of being "trapped" trying to escape a location, and my third idea was about what happens "behind closed doors" portraying the distress and negativity families experience and how people can be pushed away. However, I felt that I would be able to develop the idea of a waiting room the most and felt inspired and motivated when watching other videos. I believe today's session went really well as we worked together to ensure Louise could show her full potential and learn new movements exploring the body in different ways in which she usually would. We've also included moves she struggles on, for example a backwards roll, pushing and challenging her to work on something in preparation for the film. We discussed in detail the characterisation and the importance of her role throughout as she will start the piece and set the scene. 
Grace will be playing a child throughout whom is unaware of what's going on around her, everyone else is hurt and grieving from the news, Grace, unaware is playing with her doll - upsetting everyone else showing insensitivity as she has a doll representing the baby someone has just lost however she doesn't know about it yet. Grace needs to portray her excitability through her childlike character in addition to the confusion as she feels fed up and frustrated because no one wants to play along with her.
I feel today's session was really successful, although we didn't get much done choreography wise I felt it was important to ensure Grace was fully aware of her character to maintain a strong character throughout. I was really struggling with ideas of choreography for Chloe's solo as I knew what I envisioned but was unsure on how to create it; this made today's rehearsal a slow and long process as we tried and experimented different idea's and movements to incorporate within the choreography. Similarly to previous motifs, I included and developed different arm gestures showing her desperation and reaching out to heaven. Chloe's solo is a working progress however I believe with another session we will get the choreography completed providing Chloe with plenty of time to rehearse and refine ready to film. I found today's rehearsal a difficult process however now we have our starting point I believe it will allow us to progress and move on. I was happy with today's session as everyone was understanding and helped communicate any thoughts and suggestions of how we could make things work. I do believe there is a lot of work to be done to improve this as I want the choreography to look strong, confident and flow; in my opinion through lots more rehearsals and allowing the movement to build in your head to create a movement memory will improve the quality of the performance. I expected today be a slow start and didn't expect a lot would be achieved as I knew I had a lot to go through in addition to choreographing; now I have a starting point and have seen how everyone dances the choreography it'll help me continue to progress and add to what we already have for next weeks rehearsal.

When watching the video back to prepare for tomorrows session, I noticed things I'd like to feedback to my dancers in order to perform the material the best way possible; I feel there was a lack of confidence of the movement which prevented them from dancing to the best of their abilities as they held back; I want them to let go and feel the movements representing there individual characteristics through the movements and making it there own, however I don't want this to affect the timing. I think in time and extra rehearsals this will come and will help the performance and the rhythm. In addition to this, I decided the walks into the line looked messy and didn't fit, I'm unsure whether they need to transition in another way or take fewer steps, or pick up the temp, this is something I will work on in tomorrows session to ensure my dancers look the best and the choreography looks neat with perfect transitions.

Although I thought today's session would be difficult as I didn't want to move on too quick so my dancer would struggle, I felt the rehearsal went really well. Once I started to choreograph I had a creative wave which really helped my process as I was able to use my time efficiently and provide the time for Charlotte to rehearse the movement. In addition to today's rehearsal I also recorded the choreography so that there was a video she can watch back to continue to rehearse independently knowing she has a video to look back at for guidance.

Even though I found today's session difficult, I believe it was beneficial as it taught me what life as a choreographer can be like, we all envision things in our heads but when we see it danced it just isn't looking as you anticipated, proving we always have to be prepared to face these difficulties and be able to think quickly to create an alternative as it's unfair to keep your dancers waiting whilst you spend a long period of time choreographing.

I really liked the look of everyone's costume, however, was unsure about what Grace was wearing so she will bring alternatives to wear on the day so we can decide which one works best for her character and is easiest for her to move in.

In addition to discussing costume, I also ran through my plan of the filming process and explained that it could take a while and that alterations to the location will need to be carried out to ensure it is safe for my dancers and follows what I previously stated in my risk assessment.

To finish the session I answered any questions and queries my dancers had about filming and the process etc and then left the rest of the time open to go over any choreography to ensure everyone felt prepared and confident enough on Thursday.

Initially, I felt anxious about the process as I was unsure of how it was going to go, I have never done anything like this so it took a while to plan my ideas and create a detailed rehearsal plan and create the choreography to work for all my dancers individually in addition to pushing their strengths and teaching them something new. 

My dancers were able to pick up choreography well and perform it to a camera with confidence and demonstrate the correct characteristics to help set the theme and ideas of the piece. I often found some rehearsals difficult due to lack of attendance, or people attending late putting what I had planned behind schedule but we were able to pull together and pull this around to ensure we didn't fall behind target as it was vital we got this done and achieved by the 27th. 

All my dancers responded in a professional manner and were understanding during the filming process; as I had never done this before I had to experiment on the day and film from different angles to ensure I got the best ranges of view. I made my dancers repeatedly perform the choreography until I was happy with it and the timing was correct. Some changes had to be made on the day as they weren't used to dancing on carpet and I was worried about the risk of carpet burns on their skin so we adapted choreography as best as we could to prevent this from happening and prevent injuries to the dancers.

I am glad that I chose to film my piece myself as I ended up really enjoying it and it allowed my to have freedom to explore different angles and I felt I was able to have full control over what was happening instead of working to someone else's time frame and what they thought would be best. I struggled to edit the clips at first, but after sticking with it and experimenting I ended up creating and editing a piece I am proud of and I thoroughly enjoyed putting together, although I faced learning curves I worked around each one to ensure I got the piece completed to a good standard. 

If I were to change anything of the piece I would have allowed more time to rehearse, create and refine material so that I could have experimented more and been confident that the dancers would have known the choreography.

I much preferred the dress to the shirt as I don't think the shirt would have worked as well as the dress. 

Overall I really liked the look of all the dancers and everyone looked individual which is what I wanted. She helped you and answered questions. She also was a good team worker as she allowed us to import on her piece as she wanted us to see what we came up with as well. I enjoyed the experience and thought I got allowed with everyone doing the piece. The progress of the piece was smooth and wasn't rushed. Overall I believe the rehearsal process of the site specific piece was well organised and prepared for each rehearsal. There was always a plan for the solo and group parts which were taken from notes previously written in her notebook. She based all the solos around each dancer’s ability to show strengths. She always performed a warm up for us to make sure we avoided injury and scheduled rehearsals around our free time. The performance was very successful as it presented her idea well and was a pleasure to work with her on this task.
