I seem to have a lot of blank space and so given time would slightly adjust the placement of objects. I enjoyed the exercise but menaylly, it was hard work building and holding the image in my mind. It was easier to draw it as it was described.

As I drew this I kept trying to answer questions I didn't know the answer to: Is she happy? What is the painter trying to say? Only when I looked at other peoples pictures did I realise that I've put her facing a different way to most. Why?

I drew the woman in the wrong place (in the window) and I had no idea what 'in profile' meant so I drew her facing outwards. Also, I didn't have any colours so mine is in just a pencil drawing. It was difficult to listen, think and draw at the same time. I've re-listened and found it much easier to imagine the picture than to try to draw it.

I wish I was better painting but my imagination went beyond. The description, to me, was complete, was enough! It was free of emotions, so it was fantastic being able to add my point of view. However, I know there are probably more elements or conditions that could be described more precisely to explain the intentions of an artist. How important is this job in a museum !!!

that was a nice exercise to feel into the needs and challenges of blind people when visiting an art exhibition. i had to listen to the audio twice and still i didn´t get it all as i missed some english vocabulary ;)
it´s interesting to see, how one gets an idea on what is shown on a picture but it´s hard to tell which artistic style the artist was painting with. maybe it might be interesting to express the artwork more with vivid sounds? what would the woman on the painting tell us? what is the atmosphere – going beyond a simple description of the painting :)

This is a picture that I took outside the Huntarian Museum, part of the University of Glasgow. This was some years ago when they had an exhibition on in tandem with the tv series Walking with Dinosaurs. "Glasgow" proved extremely popular with students, wedding groups and tourist that she, (yes, this was a female), that she started to disintegrate and had to be removed.

I could not take in all the information given and had to rewind constantly. Would the colours have meant anything to someone who is blind ? I do not know. I had to concentrate on the shapes and objects being described and the colours were too much to take in as well.

I found the painting hard to draw because I had to draw one detail at a time, which is why my woman isn't drawn in profile. When I heard there was a woman in the painting, I just drew her how I imagined her, and then realized that there were other details that followed to help describe what she looked like. Oops!

Seeing the finished work I am happy with what I was able to interpret! I definitely think drawing while listening to the audio once was a challenge. I feel that if I had listened to the audio, and then listened again while drawing I would have nailed more details. Overall a really interesting exercise!

The upper picture was the result of the first time listening to the audio. The lower one was from the second time. It is really interesting that we all made very similar paintings and that the biggest difference is which side of the Lady is shown.

I drew this from the written transcript, it was hard as I was open to my personal interpretation and well out of practice drawing skills! I kind of thought about quite an urban/industrial feel although I know my drawing probably doesn’t get that across!

Gave it a shot! I found it hard to draw eyes looking down. The information is also given quite quickly and you have to be listening very carefully to get it all down.

I spent about 10-15mins on this. Although some things are very different, I was surprised that my sketch is more like the painting than I thought it would be, since I found the exercise pretty challenging.

I tried to only include colour here when it was specifically mentioned by the Visual Describer. I definitely had to listen to the recording a couple of times to get a more complete image in my mind.

I messed up from the outset because I drew the woman on the wrong side of the window. This has proven that people interpret language differently; because from her perspective she is in front of the window but from ours she is behind it. From now on, when I describe something like this to a blind or visually impaired person, I will make sure to mention from whose perspective I am referring to. Overall though, I think the speaker did a great job of describing things visually and in detail, and her speed of speech was appropriate.

I really enjoyed looking at how other people have drawn what they heard. I was confused as to where the window placement was meant to be and the women's relationship to this space. Towards the end of the exercise it became clearer that the window was in-fact meant to be in the right hand corner. I think the description was very clear at a good pace. Very interesting activity.

I thought the description was excellent - I initially started drawing along but found that this didn't work as added details went against earlier decisions I had made. Instead, I listened to the description all the way through, allowing me to visualise the whole image vividly. I particularly liked the attention the describer paid to proportions. I then listened for a second time, this time drawing along and pausing the audio after each section.

Drawing the painting, as I listened to the description, allowed me to appreciate the level of detail needed in order for someone to be able to visualise the painting in their mind. For example, I found references to the proportions (e.g. the lady takes up most of the left hand side) very useful. Although I did a pencil drawing and did not colour it, the descriptions of the colours helped me to imagine what the painting would look like. As did the shapes (e.g. tall, curvy jug). I found this to be a very clear, detailed description of the painting.

I found it difficult because my native language is not english so I had to repeat the listening three times. Second, I'm not good at drawing. Anyway. This remindme how difficult is for us to understand blind people and the same for them to us.

The order of the painting's description was difficult to visualise the painting as a whole, as I had already filled in he blanks, eg. her hair. The time period/style of the painting would've been very helpful. The actual painting is also landscape format and the jug is clearly visible...

This was a fun exercise! Though there were a lot of changes I'd make to the audio description to better understand what the image was actually conveying in terms of time period, ethnicity of the woman (I am surprised this was not even mentioned!) and some other quite major things that I think would have helped a lot!

This was really fun to do, but I wonder how blind people can follow the description while remembering all the information.

It was a very complicated exercise. The narrator did a good job, but it was difficult to copy the image. I think it would be interesting to include other things like emotions that are transmitted by colors of the painting, the materials used, the types of lines, etc

Although the narrator did a fantastic job of describing the portrait, I often wonder how a blind/visually impaired person perceives color. I decided to keep the color in black and white, as I feel as though visually impaired people may associate color with what orange, green, black, white may be to them in regards to how they feel/use their creativity.

Since I am deaf I had to use the Audio description .pdf anyway and had not coloured pens nearby (not that it would help). It also is entirely different to draw an image we have in our minds, but also people who have lost sight "see" differently than people who were born without it. Concepts such as colour, or light... things that sighted people think would invoke emotions or feelings for us, would not have the same effects.

I'm not really good in drawing. But I find it exciting and difficult. I loved the activity.

Closing my eyes and visualizing the painting required focusing on each detail and piecing them together in my mind. It was a bit like solving a puzzle where each descriptive element formed part of the whole image. I had to think deeply about the spatial relationships and the overall composition.

I really enjoyed this task as I'm very visual and see it as a challenge. It felt like an exercise I would ask pupils to do at school. There were so many questions about details - I have worked with children with visual impairments and I know how tricky it can be to include everything in descriptions whilst being conscious of time limitations as the child will need to be able to keep up with the pace of their peers.

Not high art from me! It's interesting how when hearing one detail in the description, you make assumptions, and then a subsequent detail changes the image for you - for me the courtyard was much further away when I first heard it and started sketching it for example, then the detail of the man made me realise I'd gone a bit astray

Тихая, наполненная ожиданием картина о времени, которое замедлилось.

В центре — женщина, замершая между настоящим и будущим. Её опущенный взгляд и рука, лежащая на животе, создают ощущение внутреннего диалога — разговора с тем, кто ещё не появился на свет. Пространство вокруг неё словно дышит: мягкий свет из окна, сдержанные цвета одежды, спокойная вертикаль её фигуры.

Предметы на столе не случайны — свеча как знак хрупкости и надежды, открытая книга как символ истории, которая продолжается, апельсин как вспышка жизни и тепла. Даже кувшин, показанный лишь наполовину, будто намекает на незавершённость, на процесс.

За окном — мир. Серое небо и радуга одновременно. Городская площадь, здания, даль, и маленькая фигура мужчины, машущего в сторону окна. Это расстояние — не только физическое. Это пространство ожидания, разлуки и надежды.

В тексте есть удивительное равновесие между покоем и движением. Женщина неподвижна, но всё вокруг неё говорит о переменах. Это не просто описание сцены — это образ ожидания чуда, в котором тишина наполнена светом.

I am not an artist in the fine arts, and I have audio processing issues, so this was very much a challenge. I am well aware this looks horrible. I tried to follow along as the audio was going.
