The animals appeared to be smarter than scientists had thought."  The experiments showed that birds were smart enough to use rocks to make the water rise to get the worm.  The article said, "Each bird used the stone-dropping trick on its own." I never realized birds were actually smart.

I think birds are smart because they are able to use tools. The text states, "The birds soon learned that stones would not raise the sawdust level." This means that they are smart because they are smart enough to know that the sawdust would not work after a couple tries. This proves that birds are smart because they are smart enough to learn something after they just start something. All in all birds are smart.
