As a sport coach applying TGFU (Teaching Games for Understanding) in coaching sessions, some challenges he/she may face would be difficulties in managing the class, facing time constraints, and having insufficient space for games.

It can be challenging to manage the class as the coach needs to also take into consideration each of the individual’s needs while also applying TGFU. One thing the coach can do to overcome this challenge would be to modify the TGFU sessions such that it provides different challenges or modifications to the drills which accommodates to varying skill levels, to meet the individual needs and skill levels of the players.

In most cases, applying TGFU in a session takes much more time to execute as compared to traditional coaching methods. However, the benefits of TGFU often outweigh the time invested into the sessions. One thing that the coach can do to overcome this challenge would be to plan his/her sessions efficiently and accurately, and as the players get comfortable and used to the method, the sessions will over time become more time effective.

When applying TGFU in coaching sessions, many times coaches find that the space provided/given is insufficient. One thing that the coach can do to overcome this challenge would be to be creative and adapt/modify the games to the space and resources made available. As sessions go by, and as the coach continuously applies creativity to his sessions, over time, it would be much easier and faster for him/her to think of a solution, which can result in the session being more efficient.
