This year I'm looking forward to reading the book Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. When Ms. Ellis did a book talk on this book it sounded really interesting and I definitely want to get my hands on it sometime this year. This is new to me, since I'm not really familiar with the mix of two totally different genres in one book. At the same time it really intrigues me, and it's even better when they are two genres that I like! I'm excited to read this book and see how the author mixes historical fiction as well as social issues!

This year I'm excited to begin reading Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark by Ridley Pearson. For this book, I'm thinking it will be more of a challenge for me since I'm not a crazy big fantasy reader. The only fantasy books I've read are from the author Natalie Lloyd, but besides that I haven't read much fantasy at all. I'm looking forward to reading this book since I've heard many great things about it. I'm also a big Disney lover, which I hope will make me fall in love with this book even more.

I'm looking forward to reading the book Mostly the Honest Truth by Jody J. Little. I was actually planning on reading this over the summer but hadn't gotten around to doing it. The plot sounds interesting, and it's in the social issues genre which I'm comfortable reading in. Yet it is in a genre I'm comfortable reading in, the plot sounded new and different to me, so yet it is similar to some of the other books I read, it is different at the same time, since this is a type of plot that I've never read before.

White Bird by R.J. Palacio - Window

The book White Bird by R.J. Palacio was a window for me.

One reason why that this book is a window for me is because I have never lived in France or anywhere other than the United States. Sara was living in France and lived a totally different lifestyle then me, she was also living in a different time period then me, which causes Sara and I to do things differently in our day to day life.

Another way that this book was a window for me was not being able to relate to the traumatic experience that Sara had to go through. What Sara had to go through has never been something that I've had to experience. I've fortunately never have had to experience the feeling of being unimportant or threatened because of my religion or beliefs.

The last reason how White Bird was a window for me is because in the book Sara is an only child. I, on the other hand have two older brothers. Since Sara is an only child Sara's parents give her their undivided attention. However, since I have two older brothers my parents can't focus all of their attention on me, since they have two other kids to take care of.

Though Sara and I are very different from each other, I really enjoyed reading White Bird and looking through Sara's eyes. Seeing Sara's perspective of life was really interesting, and I loved learning more about her and what decisions she thought that were best for herself.
